The Sun Goes Down.

Went quiet for a couple of weeks on here! I still have the insatiable need to talk non-stop on the Internet; it's just that lately I've been doing a lot of my talking in, er, Linkin Park fan communities. I'll get back to normal around here eventually. (Danganronpa V3 is out at last in a couple of weeks, so I probably won't be able to shut up about that. Brace yourself.)

I've been playing Telltale's Walking Dead game, and it is EXTREMELY STRESSFUL. The zombies aren't scary; the fact that you're constantly having high-pressure conversations and having to make quick decisions about what to say is terrifying. I'm glad Life Is Strange was the first game in this vein I played; your time-travel powers mean you have as much time as you like to make decisions, so it eases you into the choice-based episodic genre gently.

Clementine is very sweet. I'm not sure yet whether she feels like a fleshed-out character to me. She's shy and quiet, which I suppose naturally means it'll take a while for me to feel that I know her. (I'm most of the way through Episode Two.)

One moment that did strike me, with regard to Clementine's characterisation: I told a guy that I was a neighbour looking after her, because it sounded better than 'I'm just some dude who escaped being sent to prison and stumbled across this kid,' and he asked Clementine whether she knew me, and she said yes! Only eight years old and already lying to protect me. I'm so proud.

I really like the way she's latched on to Lee, and she'll look to him for permission if anyone else offers her something. I was so pleased when he hugged her in Episode Two, after the traumatic meat locker incident. It's possible there were hugs before that, but I don't recall any. MORE HUGS.

Episode Two also let me down horrendously, though, because there's a point where you're in a barn with a cow.

Clementine: Do you want to pet the cow with me?
Lee: Nah, but you go on ahead.

WHY

IN THIS CHOICE-BASED GAME

WOULD YOU INTRODUCE THE POSSIBILITY OF COW-PETTING

AND THEN NOT ALLOW THE PLAYER TO PET THE COW

I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU WOULD DO THIS TO ME.

High-pressure conversations and zombies in the same game? Throw in jellyfish and you have all of my greatest fears!

An eight-year-old girl who will lie and claim the guy who escaped from prison and took her in is actually someone she's know for a while? Adorable and worrying!

...lliterally, why would they not let you pet the cow?

I kind of want that game to exist now.

I know! Why bring it up if they're not going to let you? It seems like exactly the right thing! And not just because you get to pet the cow.

Such a great series. Clem develops really well by the end, though a lot of her development is-- understandably-- heavily based on taking cues from how you play Lee. Then there's Season Two... woof. Great series though, with some awesome characters. I was stuck being frustrated by also caring about so many of the people there (Kenny, esp. My god how I want to help him, but also wanna smack him). I think my favorite person was Omid, who you'll meet quite a bit later on. He's major husbando material.

I KNOW RIGHT. I WANTED TO PET THE COW.

YESSSSSS

I love The Walking Dead games. Clementine is adorable! Seriously, even people who normally hate kid characters seem to love her. (They hate Duck though. I never had a big problem with him.) The Clementine and Lee friendship is one of my favourite things!

YOU CAN'T PET THE COW. HAVE YOU NOT LEARNED YET THAT THIS SERIES IS A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE WITH SURPRISE HEARTWARMING THEN MORE ZOMBIES? Although if it were a zombie cow, they'd probably go along with that!

Years ago, I wrote Walking Dead fic for Yuletide. I'll link you when you've finished season 1 if you like; I won't now as there's some major spoilers (it's effectively point of view fic of season 1 since the request was to get into Clem's head).

Please keep blogging this! :D (And of course, DRV3 too.)

Look, if you're going to already be a thief, then may as well make the most of it. Taking one thing rather than a hundred doesn't make you less of a thief. DON'T MAKE THAT FACE, CLEMENTINE. I'M SORRY. I CAN'T LET YOU STARVE.

I like how Clementine's reaction to things is like the guilt monitor. xD
