Okay, first things first: READ THIS.
It's the first part of a Scrubs/Doctor Who crossover by
thegreatesthits DON'T LET THAT SCARE YOU AWAY IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED DOCTOR WHO. It is completely understandable if you're only familiar with Scrubs, and also it is absolutely fantastic and I want to marry it. It has JD/Cox and, of course, potential Captain Jack Harkness/everyone.
Secondly, I've taken a look at this House thing, so I can see what everyone's raving about and better understand the Wilson/Janitor House/Scrubs crossover over at
dr_nice_shoes. The episode in question was called 'All In', I think - the one about that little kid with Esther's disease (NOT 'ESTHARIAN' DISEASE, BRAIN, WE SO DO NOT NEED TO ADD FINAL FANTASY VIII TO THE GREAT BIG CRACKY SHERLOCK HOLMES/HOUSE/SCRUBS/SILENT HILL/DOCTOR WHO CROSSOVER CONCEPT).
There's something incredibly surreal about watching Hugh Laurie with an American accent. Also about sitting in front of the television to watch a particular programme for the first time, all excited and not knowing what to expect, and seeing this:
House and Wilson: (HAVE SEX WITH THEIR EYES. I didn't even know that was possible, but clearly it is, because that is exactly what they did.)
House: I will now talk about relative testicle size in animals WITH AN AMERICAN ACCENT WHAT.
Riona: ...
Certainly a memorable opening, but perhaps there could have been better points at which to begin my watching.
That kid was creepy and annoying. I was laughing like a lunatic when his mother was speaking to him after that woman (Cameron?) told her that the last patient with these symptoms died, because I am a horrible person.
It's all very medical. I, er, should probably have anticipated this, seeing as it's a medical drama and whatnot. I think that all this watching Scrubs has left me thinking 'WHY OF COURSE I DO NOT NEED TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT DOCTORLY THINGS IN ORDER TO WATCH THINGS ABOUT DOCTORS'. So yeah, I was feeling a little bit clueless during most of it.
I heartily approve of House breaking into that coffee-place with his cane.
I liked House being all obsessive over the patient who died twelve years ago, and the way he endangered that kid (who really did seem extremely determined to die, didn't he?) by continuing to draw out the tumour after his cardiac arrest. There do seem to be similarities between him and Dr. Cox, but their motives are different - as far as I can tell, Dr. Cox wants to cure the patient, but House wants to defeat the disease.
I can't say I'm that drawn in yet, but I'm going to try watching it again next week, because it might just take a little time to grow on me and I want to like it. I really do.
If only the Janitor were there.
