Well, to be honest, I've never heard of it being done just for toast. Only toasted sandwiches (and there's generally a lair of protective foil, as the sandwiches have butter and that doesn't brush off as easily as crumbs). But it should work for standard toast as well. You could make some, film yourself, and send the video to David Mitchell! I bet he'd be quite impressed!
