I do think that, considering both of their histories, Lisbon is start to treat Jane like a brother. I don't know if the show ever tells us which one of them is older, but she's so used to slotting herself into a protective big sister role, and people do a lot of potentially stupid shit for family. Jane is inching closer and closer to going completely off the rails, and Lisbon is protecting him.
Also, it's likely that they brought in Visualize and keep bringing it back to teach/remind viewers Hello! Look at what cults do to people! So I wouldn't be surprised if Red John employs the same sort of tactics, or we're supposed to draw parallels?
