I know nothing about Due South beyond what you've mentioned here, but that is so incredibly awesome. I've heard of encouraging fanfic before, but never specifically slash.
All you need to know about Due South (http://community.livejournal.com/crack_van/81668.html), courtesy of Crack_Van :) If you're getting into Life on Mars, you'll LOVE Due South. It's weirder, and there's no time travel, but it's all coming from the same place...
The whole encouraging the slashers thing came about in the last two series. Paul Gross was well aware of the slashers by this point, and threw them a line or an injoke wherever he could. I think the main reason more people slash Ray K with Fraser than Ray V is that it was set up that way.

Thanks :) I like this idea, it's scarily easy to stick the TG3 in all sorts of places! Also, if you get to know Dief, you'll realise he's developed a liking for being driven around in fast cars, so it makes sense he'd jump into the Zonda...
