Hurrah, glad you're enjoying it! I'm not crazy obsessed with it - only watched it once through, and haven't been reading much fic - but I really enjoyed it when I did watch it, and may see it again soon so I can show my husband. What I really like is it does have those twists of time-travel/coma/mystery, but basically it's a really cracking 1970s copper show.

Sam's last name is Tyler because apparently the writer asked his little daughter to suggest a last name, and she said Tyler, and he did it and only later found out she'd suggested it because she'd been watching DW and Rose Tyler was a time-traveller. The crossovers are built into the very foundation of the show.
