I was exactly the same with GFs! I didn't know a thing about junctioning magic and just GF-spammed my way through every single fight. I don't know how I had the patience. Then I hit the same point as you, the Adel fight, and went '...I'm going to have to change my strategy' and then 'oh, that's how junctioning works' and then '...but I haven't been drawing and I don't have any good magic.' I ended up having to restart the game entirely. It's a good thing I loved Squall so much; he carried me through what would probably otherwise have been a frustrating experience.
