Actually, this was something I've been really appreciating on my The Last of Us replay: how grimy and unwashed the characters look. Joel's clothes look like they haven't been washed in years (dirt caked into the fibers and a dried bloody handprint at his knee pre-Fall!) and even Ellie's hair looks greasy and limp. It makes complete sense, considering their circumstances.
