Kris really looks like they're suffering without their soul. I originally thought the soul was our soul, but I'm now leaning towards 'it's Kris's soul; we're just controlling it'.
I've seen other people talking about Dess being Noelle's sister like it's a definitely canon thing so maybe it's confirmed somewhere I just didn't look.
I also wondered about that! I didn't see it outright confirmed in my playthrough, but 'Noelle had a sister called December, who's no longer around' seems to make sense. Noelle, Kris and Asriel used to spend time with a Dess as kids, Noelle shut down when asked to spell 'December' at the spelling bee, and I think Noelle mentions having a sister at one point. Plus there's a calendar in Noelle's search-result personalised room formed entirely of 25 Decembers, which could potentially be the result of searching for 'December Holiday'.
