I assumed he was intended to be a teenager from Sully's 'little young for a bartender, aren't you?' line! I sort of hope he is, because I feel it substantially changes Nate's character if he doesn't meet Sully until adulthood. (Also because, if Nate's an adult in the film, it returns to being a crime that we didn't get Brett Dalton.)
