Final Fantasy X: Yuna, Tidus, and Wakka.
They're just the strongest from a combat perspective. I always make Yuna incredibly OP and teach Tidus steal skills, and Wakka is the only one who can hit aerial enemies for most of the game. And I'm someone who loves to use status spells and debuffs on my enemies. There's really no storyline reason for it.
