I think this was an assumption I made based largely on incorrectly remembering a detail, now that I check! I thought Maelle said at the start of the game that Sophie was thirty-four, but no; she's thirty-three. I've had a poke around, though, and apparently one of the writers has confirmed that you live until the next Gommage.
