That fits so well. Dean throwing himself recklessly into dangerous situations so he can get killed fighting evil and saving Sam. Because in his mind, that would be a way to get payback and balance the scales. And it works as an attempt to kills himself in a, "What me, suicidal? Don't be ridiculous!" fashion.
