Do You Understand The Concept Of 'Undercover'?
The net wouldn’t have stopped the car if it had kept going, would it? Ah, well, I suppose it made for a pretty spectacular arrest. Maybe the car thief was just a bit silly.
I find Sam’s little smirk when Gene is threatening the referee inexplicably adorable.
Seriously, the opening sequence makes me so incredibly ridiculously gloriously happy. Does anyone have that opening theme? (At this point I hummed the tune to illustrate what I was talking about, and then remembered that the noises I make while typing my posts are not automatically embedded into them. Whoops.)
“Arsenal. Well, whoever did it at least had a decent motive.” I love Gene so much. Insensitive and yet hilarious!
God, it must be awful having to tell someone that a family member has died.
Sam, you can’t promise that you’ll find the killer! (The music is always so very good in Life on Mars. Even if you don’t really notice it, it always works so well with the mood.)
“Get Ray to breathe on them.” I LOVE YOU GENE.
“If this were about football, he would have had serious injuries.”
“He’s dead. That’s quite serious.”
Hee! I love it when Sam and Gene argue. (And when they agree, and when they fight, and you know, any scene with both Sam and Gene in it is pretty much guaranteed awesome.)
Gene was totally throwing his suspect around in the corridor just to impress Sam. I bet he was waiting for him.
Suspect: Aren’t you going to question me?
Gene: Not yet. Shh.
Suspect: Can I go, then?
Gene: Shut up!
Suspect: It’s just -
Gene: THERE HE IS (FLINGS SUSPECT OUT INTO THE CORRIDOR)
Ryan (is that his name?) asks Sam whether his (Sam’s) father is dead, and Sam nods unthinkingly before saying, “No, actually - no, he’s not.” Does this mean that his father died at some point after 1973, or that he never died but Sam thinks of him as dead for some other reason? Have we found anything out about his father, apart from that he’s not a very good salesman?
Hee, little Sam! And Sam brooding is, as always, freaking adorable. I love him.
“Long time no see.”
“That’s ‘cause I’ve been avoiding you.”
I highly approve of Annie’s straightforwardness. Good for you, Annie. (But you shouldn’t have been avoiding him, because he’s been doing a lot of being adorably sad lately and I imagine he could have done with some companionship that didn’t have the potential to suddenly turn into a fistfight at any point.)
HE’S NOT ‘DOCTOR WHO’ HE’S THE DOCTOR but, er, I suppose saying ‘I went to see the Doctor’ wouldn’t really have worked, so I’ll forgive you. Seriously, I’m just extremely happy that there’s a Doctor Who reference in here.
‘Please shag me, I’m in a coma’ is the greatest chat-up line ever and would have me in a second. (Annie loses points of approval for being offended by the greatest chat-up line ever. I am shocked, Annie.)
Wow, a Sam/Annie moment that Gene didn’t ruin! There’s one for the history books. They managed to ruin it themselves without any help, though.
“I think I’ve got something.”
“Number for the special clinic’s on the door.”
Gene really reminded me of House there. Oh, dear.
They just go and arrest the landlord for cattle rustling! Genius! And for Gene, it’s so obviously just about the booze.
Hee! Sam/Gene ‘shipper that I am, that sneaky Sam/Annie glance in the pub was really rather cute.
Okay, clearly everyone’s completely forgotten about why they’re in the pub. I can’t say I’m surprised.
OH GOD NOT TEST CARD GIRL AGAIN NO
Okay, this is driving me insane. What is that recurring leafy-place-running-figure-scream flashback about? Is it something to do with his father?
WAY TO BE SUBTLE AND UNDERCOVER, GENE.
Ahahaha, this whole plan is such a shambles! I love it!
...er, Gene? Did you just - what did you - what? ‘Subtle’ really is another country to you, isn’t it? (And he mouths ‘what?’ when he notices that Sam is staring at him! He doesn’t have a clue what he’s done wrong! It’s fantastic!)
OH YES LEAVE THE UNCONSCIOUS MAN IN THERE I AM SURE THAT NOTHING WILL GO HORRIBLY WRONG
I’m really quite curious about the story behind that "Not easy to keep your story straight when you’re pissed; you ask my missus" statement. (There are so many fandoms I can use this 'P.S. I AM CHEATING ON MY WIFE' icon for! Also: “I’m not sure that’s ethical.” “It’s not, it’s vodka.” Oh, Gene.)
My theory is that Coxy and friends killed Colin because they are raving lunatic Arsenal fans who wanted to incite aggression against City and to have an excuse for assaulting the fans. Granted, this is a long shot, but it means it’ll be all the more impressive when it turns out to be true. Oh yes.
Awww, Sam, you’re staring. Take care. (And hey, Gene’s not entirely hopeless at this after all!)
“I can’t remember the last time I went to a match. I think it was about... now.” WAY TO GO, SAM. Hey, does this mean that Little Sam (and, presumably, Little Sam’s Father) are going to be at the upcoming match?
Oh dear, drunk!Gene is rather incoherent, isn’t he? I can see I’m going to have to do a bit of backtracking to figure out what on Earth he’s saying.
Awww, poor chastised Sam. (But it was rather fortunate that he dragged Gene in there just when their unconscious man was coming to, wasn’t it?)
And suddenly it’s so very tense, and it’s got the sort of tension-building music that makes me unthinkingly bite my nails. Damn you, Life on Mars, I hate it when my fingernails have been bitten down!
Hee, Sam gets to mock Gene for the whole I’m not getting drunk, you idiot thing in the end.
You see, he was killed by another Arsenal fan! I knew it!
“I found out that bit.” Awww, Chris is so proud of himself. Awww.
SEE? DO YOU SEE? I AM A COMPLETE GENIUS. OH YES.
Okay, the Pete part I really didn’t see coming. Fine, Life on Mars, you win again.
God, I haven’t seen Sam so genuinely furious before. He seems more brutal in his arrest of Pete than usual. Is this Gene’s influence rubbing off on him?
Ha, Gene insisting ‘It was still about football!’ and demanding an apology! Excellent focus-keeping there, Gene. Congratulations.
They are such kids. Such kids. I adore them.
Awww, Sam randomly adopting Colin’s son! How incredibly adorable and also strange.
And he sees himself and does a double-take and oh my God it’s beautiful. I love this show so much.
AND OH MY GOD THE PREVIEW FOR THE NEXT EPISODE JUST ABSOLUTELY GAVE ME A HEART ATTACK OH MY GOD OH MY GOD I AM ACTUALLY GOING TO DIE WHY DID I HAVE TO RATION MYSELF TO ONE EPISODE A DAY?

Also, as much as the Doctor Who reference made me squeal, it ruins all my big fun crossover theories! Lame. Lame lame lame.
(Also also, yeah, the weird leafy-place thing? You'll see. But, um, don't get your hopes up.)

I noticed the keys bit (and thus the guy in the bar), I didn't pick up on the City vs Arsenal setup. *grin* I was quite proud of myself for noticing the keys, because it reminded me of some weird novel I read once.
I wish I could tell you things without spoiling you.

Well, if I carry on watching at the rate I am I'll probably have finished the series by Thursday. I don't know whether that's a good or a bad thing. On the one hand I can get involved in communities and read fanfiction and discuss things without fear of spoilers, but on the other: aaaah! No more Life on Mars!

I think there are books out there where the heroine holds her keys as a knuckleduster (as if that's going to help when she's thin as a stick). Something jogged my memory, anyway.
But I would have failed at knowing the plan, so the fight probably would have gone on without police intervention. :( Mine is the bigger fault. Sam and Gene, though (as you have the advantage of home ground, too). *grins*
There is to be a second series, but I know what you mean.

- AHAHAHAHAHAHA. *dies laughing* That is just the kind of thing Gene would do (in my head, at least).
