Forfeit The Game.

Finished Uncharted: The Lost Legacy! It was a great deal of fun, and the scenery continued to be absurdly beautiful all the way through. Spoilers under the cut!

(These notes weren't all written after I'd finished the game; I noted them down at assorted points during play. The following was furiously typed up as soon as Sam Drake appeared. I was not expecting him to be in Lost Legacy, and he was not an especially pleasant surprise. I'd become slightly less cold to him by the end, but only very slightly. I suppose I warmed to him approximately as much as Nadine does, i.e. to the point of 'I suppose I can tolerate your presence.' (I was so pleased that he didn't wholly win her over.))

WHY IS SAM DRAKE IN THIS GAME

WHY IS SAM DRAKE IN THE UNCHARTED SERIES AT ALL

WHY CAN'T YOU JUST GO AWAY, SAM DRAKE

INSTEAD OF BARGING INTO A SERIES THAT HAS NO PLACE FOR YOU

TAKING SCREENTIME AWAY FROM EVERYONE I CARE ABOUT

MESSING UP THE BACKSTORY

BREAKING UP MY TREASURE-HUNTING GIRLFRIENDS

NOT EVEN BEING AN INTERESTING CHARACTER TO MAKE UP FOR IT

YOU'RE JUST THE WORST

But, even if this game committed the cardinal sin of reminding me that Sam Drake exists, it also contains a 'stroke the elephant' button. I can forgive a lot for a 'stroke the elephant' button.

Also, since writing the above, I've reached the bit where you actually team up with Sam, and I do enjoy that Nadine hates him twice as much as I do. It's easier to endure his presence when someone else is doing all my grumbling for me. Chloe and Nadine constantly, blatantly favour each other over him and it's great.

...and, since writing that, I've finished the game. I will grudgingly admit that Sam massively third-wheeling while Nadine and Chloe roll their eyes is a pretty fun dynamic. It seems that I actively resent Sam less when Nate is nowhere to be seen; I suppose I just don't like being reminded of the fact that this guy is supposed to be Nate's SURPRISE BROTHER.

Even if the Sam segments were fun, though, I'm glad he was only in a small portion of this game, and that it was just Nadine and Chloe fighting side-by-side in the final confrontation. This game doesn't lose sight of what it's about, and it's about those two.

Well, it's also about big stupid explodey shooty action in beautiful settings, and it fulfils its obligations admirably in that regard as well.

I think I might actually like this more than Uncharted 4. Maybe? I'm a little conflicted about saying this, because Uncharted 4 contains NATE and ELENA and THE BIT WHERE YOU PLAY VIDEOGAMES WHILE ELENA MAKES FUN OF YOU, I.E. THE BEST PART OF THE ENTIRE UNCHARTED SERIES, but I think overall I had more fun with Lost Legacy (and Sam got on my nerves less than he did in Uncharted 4). I definitely prefer Lost Legacy to Drake's Fortune. The second and third games are still at the top of my personal list, though.

I just checked the list of trophies for this game. The trophy for taking every possible photograph is called 'Pics or It Didn't Happen'. The trophy for lockpicking every locked crate is called 'Picks or It Didn't Happen'.
