I Think We Can All Agree That Was A Mistake.

More of Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice! Here are my thought on the third case, and the remainder of the second.

Apollo, why are you surprised to learn that Bonny and Betty are twins when you were just proposing the existence of a second Bonny? What explanation did you have in mind? 'Wait, they were twins? I thought one of them was just a very convincing puppet.'

I suppose it makes sense that Apollo's uncontrollably compelled to point out contradictions and inconsistencies, even when it would be polite to stay silent.

Every so often, I'll get penalised in an Ace Attorney game because the game offers me an answer I know very well is wrong, but that I can't resist picking. In this case, the judge asked what the connection between Trucy and Retinz is, and I couldn't resist finding out what happens if you pick 'They're dating'. It was entirely worth it.

Apollo: I don’t even like to imagine this, but could it be possible the two of them are dating? If Mr Retinz and Ms Wright were in a relationship...
Retinz: Oh, that’s good! Yes! Viewers love a secret romance to dish about! Yes, Trucy and I looove each other sooo much! She’s gonna introduce me to her father sometime reeeal soon!
Apollo: Objection! Trucy would never fall for a guy like you! Not in a million years!
Judge: Mr Justice! Are you aware that you’re objecting to your own argument?!
Apollo: I’m sorry, Your Honour, but when I saw Mr Retinz’s antics, I just had to speak out!
Judge: Hmm... Personally, I can’t say that I blame you for wanting to do that... but you’re the one who came up with such a disturbing idea in the first place.
Apollo: (What was I even thinking?! All that ended up doing is grossing everyone out.)

I also couldn't resist trying to say that Bonny's mistake was 'her life choices', and Apollo's response was really cute. 'No, no. I should never say a person's life choices are a mistake. I'm sure she can be a great magician someday if she works hard at it. Good luck, Bonny! ...Anyway, getting back to the case...'

Apollo and Trucy's interactions continue to be both an absolute delight and a cause for some concern.

Case three! I can't wait for this ritual to go perfectly smoothly and nobody to get murdered.

It's Maya! I can't believe she's twenty-eight! I really hope she's going to meet Apollo and Athena at some point.

Phoenix quietly thinks he's glad she hasn't changed! I don't ship Phoenix/Maya romantically at all, but I really love their relationship.

So many murders happen in the vicinity of these characters. I wonder if they realise murder's a relatively rare thing or just assume that everyone's witnessed a couple of murders, been accused of murder and lost several acquaintances to murder.

'In my country, suspects are innocent until proven guilty,' Phoenix says. Phoenix, the legal process in your country appears to be 'arrest the first person you see and declare them guilty unless the defence proves it was completely impossible for them to commit the crime, exposing the real culprit in the process'.

MY ASSISTANT ON THIS CASE HATES ME, THIS IS GOING TO BE GREAT

Hey, Phoenix is also afraid of heights! He and Apollo should bond over it.

I can't quite read the dynamic between Ema and Sahdmadhi. Is Ema into him? She does find time to comment on the length of his eyelashes when she's complaining about him.

I was shocked and saddened when Maya said, 'Sorry, I guess I've outgrown that stepladder argument we always have,' and then delighted when Phoenix's response was, 'I think you mean "ladder", Maya.' He's not letting it go.

Is Rayfa the vigilante rebel hunter? She seems to have strong feelings about what their motivation must be. (Note from later: well, I got this one extremely wrong!)

Phoenix said 'the victim was stabbed in his abdomen' and my automatic response was 'stabdomen' and that's why I'm not a lawyer.

'I'll still root for you, no matter how morally bankrupt you become!' Bless you, Maya.

Phoenix's arm has been bound and he can't do his finger point! The direst possible turn of events.

PHOENIX AND MAYA GOT CONVICTED, IS MY 'APOLLO AND ATHENA FLY OVER TO STAGE A JAILBREAK' FIC CONCEPT GOING TO BE CANON

Rayfa tries to offer a little compassion! Is she slowly beginning to warm up to Phoenix?

I really hope Apollo and Athena hear what happened on the news and contact Phoenix in a panic.

excuse me, what is tiny Apollo doing in this photo (other than being extremely cute)

'Mr Are'bal's description really doesn't do Apollo justice.' I'm absolutely furious about this stupid joke. (But also I love it.)

'Would you risk your life for your beliefs?'
'No, I wouldn't, because I wouldn't be much use to my clients dead.'
Phoenix, you have quite literally been risking your life for your beliefs by defending in Khura'in.

I'm going to laugh really hard if the event twenty-three years ago that led to the passing of the Defence Culpability Act turns out to be Apollo's birth. They foresaw that he'd be a lawyer and they didn't want him practising in Khura'in. He's just too loud!

I can't believe the guy's real name is Rheel Neh'mu. Also, he became a monk twenty years ago? At the age of one?

I'm fairly sure whoever localised this game intended to have Sahdmadhi say he will deliver a joyous sermon unto Ema in his prayer chamber for eight hours straight. But instead he says he'll deliver it onto her, which creates a very different impression.

(If only Maya were here. She has a way of putting me at ease.) Awww, Phoenix.

I can't believe Phoenix was convicted and we didn't get to see Apollo and Athena react to it before it was overturned! What a waste of a conviction!

Very pleased that the third case included another opportunity to incorrectly accuse characters of dating. I will take the penalty every time.

I don't know if she's explicitly into him but I did enjoy their dynamic. Nahyuta clearly respects her forensic knowledge and appreciates her love of her work, to the point where he ferries her between the US and Khura'in. Compared to her charmless antagonism with Klavier, I was very pleased.

Commenting on someone's eyelashes can be platonic! It can also not be, though.

Rayfa tries to offer a little compassion! Is she slowly beginning to warm up to Phoenix?

Rayfa is such a great character. I adore her bratty little hairloops. ♥

Oh wow, that sound like would be fun!

I did a spit-take and laughed way too loudly at "stabdomen".

Accusing the characters of dating, however incorrectly, is always fun! Totally worth the penalty, in my opinion.

I'm so glad that even if their being convicted went tragically to waste, they had delightful repartee together!
