Really Sorry About Your Ass.
More of Final Fantasy VII Remake! I've just reached Aerith's house.
Aww, Tifa wondering how to break the news of Jessie's injury to Biggs, because she doesn't want him to worry!
Cloud saying he'll smile for Marlene 'if the price is right'! Tifa high-fiving Barret and then trying to high-five Cloud, who completely fails to notice his cue! It's good to see these guys starting to loosen up and have fun around each other.
Accelerated cellular degradation? Mako infusion causes rapid ageing? I don't think I ever realised that.
In the scene where Cloud hallucinates another Cloud speaking to him, just before he wakes up in the church, there's an echo when the other Cloud speaks; I wonder if that's Zack's voice.
Cloud is fascinated by Aerith.
I'm enjoying Reno! ('Why is Axel in this game?' Rei asked when he showed up.)
I was absolutely delighted that Aerith said 'shit' as the ladder broke below her. It immediately blew away my fears that she'd be characterised as innocent and pure and angelic, rather than the very human, fun young woman she is. Ginger, having watched me play through the church-and-rooftops sequence, has the impression that she puts on a bit of an innocent act so people will help her, which I think is a fair assessment.
AERITH PRETENDING SHE'S ABOUT TO FALL. I love her.
I didn't think I shipped anything in Final Fantasy VII, but I saved the crescent moon pendant that's described as being 'imbued with the powerful desire to stay by one's side for eternity' so I could equip it to Aerith, so perhaps I do. I could have equipped it to Tifa or Barret in the meantime - I thought about it; it has a useful effect! - but I didn't; I was keeping it for Aerith. My head still says I don't really ship Cloud with anyone, but my equipment allocations suggest otherwise. Maybe it's just that Aerith is my favourite character after Cloud.
Aerith is teasing Cloud non-stop and it's incredible. After he says, 'Battlefields, barracks, training grounds: that's the world I know' (HE THINKS HE'S SO COOL), she points out the clearly visible train station. When he comments he can see it himself: 'Oh? Thought the world you knew didn't include stations.'
She's perfect. My expectations were so low, and she's perfect.
'You're getting paid right now,' Aerith says, meaning he's getting to spend time with a pretty girl, and Cloud just DOESN'T GET IT.
I love that so many of you are playing this game. It's such a big event for JRPG fans! It's bringing us all together.

Reno's characterization is also way better than in other iterations he's in imo, mostly Advent Children. I know the same guy voiced both AC!Reno and Axel (I want to say when Axel was created, Reno was a huge source of inspiration), but I was happy to see someone completely different is doing Reno's voice now; he nails the cocky, impulsive, impatient attitude. Reno always felt deadly in the original, which didn't really carry over throughout the compilation, so it's such a treat to see his character return to his roots, so to speak.

I was not aware that AC Reno and Axel were voiced by the same guy, but somehow that makes perfect sense. Like you, though, I'm liking Reno's voice acting in the remake!

Ooh! (I googled Cloud's backstory so I would understand what was going on.)
Nice! A sweet character can be good, but pure becomes very tedious characterization very quickly.
Aw, cute!

Exactly! Aerith is definitely good and definitely not pure, but there's a common misconception of her character in the fandom (half based on certain spoilers and possibly just half based on the fact she wears a pink dress), and I feel that misconception ended up influencing later official material. I'm glad Square's gone back to writing her as I remember her in the original game.

I think that may be the game introducing Crisis Core lore. Genesis and Angeal suffer from degradation, so maybe now they're extending that degradation to all of SOLDIER, and not to the type G ones (maybe type G where the first one to show degradation, but then it extended to type S, because even them weren't created by the exact same process Sephiroth).

But it's so cool to see everyone so hyped about this game and finally be able to be part of it, even if it's a little. Also:
('Why is Axel in this game?' Rei asked when he showed up.)
BAHAHAHAHAHAH you know? I wondered the same thing when I saw Advent Children, because I knew Kingdom Hearts 2 by then. I love that you're having fun so you go girl!

I do have a feeling I will hate Cloud as heck (as much as I hate Squall right now).
Squall and Cloud are my favourite characters in their respective games (Squall is one of my favourite characters of all time), so I'm afraid it's possible I'll have to challenge you to a duel. It did take me a few playthroughs of Final Fantasy VII to appreciate Cloud, though, whereas I loved Squall immediately.

Then we shalt fight! Nah just kidding. I dunno, with Squall I just wanna slap him in the face and tell him to stop being so rude to people. Surrounded by vibrant and entertaining characters (Zell, Selphie, Quistis, Seifer, Xu, Fujin, and, admittedly, Cid) I just kind of root for everyone more than I do Squall. It may take me some time to get around it.
As for Cloud, I remember him in Advent Children, I liked him there as he grew so I'm bracing me self!

Yes!
In the scene where Cloud hallucinates another Cloud speaking to him, just before he wakes up in the church, there's an echo when the other Cloud speaks; I wonder if that's Zack's voice.
I'm glad you said that, because... well, I'm not gonna catch a thing like that, given my hearing, but also because in the original game I always thought it was Zack that was the one talking to him! I thought I was just wrong after all, but I did wonder if maybe it's just Cloud thinking it's himself -- his own voice -- because he can't remember Zack at all, so this makes it more intriguing!

All of this! Any scene with Aerith was just pure delight. I just realised that, even though they all have their awesome moments, I feel like she was the best voice acted and motion captured of all the characters. I'm gonna be real interested to see which scene you get in Chapter 14 [eyes emoji] I found out just yesterday that part of it was choice dependant!
'You're getting paid right now,' Aerith says, meaning he's getting to spend time with a pretty girl, and Cloud just DOESN'T GET IT.
Aerith: date?
Cloud: no date, only money

That was definitely the suspicion I had from the echo: Cloud is 'hearing' Zack, but Zack is so tied up with himself in his mind that he perceives him as another Cloud. It's really interesting to see how the remake is choosing to portray certain details from the original game.
Oh noooooo, there are choice-dependent scenes? My response to choice-dependent scenes is always 'help, I'm not ready for this level of responsibility'. TIME TO OVERTHINK ALL MY CHOICES.

I'm on Chapter 12 now, but ... get ready for Wall Market. That's a contender for the best new content in the game, IMO.

Don't really ship her with Cloud per se but I do poly ship her with Cloud and Tifa, and she has some Big Damn Shiptease with Tifa in this game. Hoo boy.
