You Guys Are Screwing It Up Faster Than I Can Correct You.

'I keep starting games and not getting anywhere with them. I need to stop jumping around and - ooh, Persona Q is on sale!'

I've just finished the Group Date Café! My notes are below, cut more for length than anything else; there's nothing particularly spoilery here. I'll be honest: I'm mostly just talking about my fondness for Yosuke.

I love Chie going 'can't have a crossbow, I'd accidentally shoot Yosuke' and Yosuke going 'I can so see that happening.'

I WAS NOT AWARE THAT YOSUKE WOULD CHECK MY MAP. I was so worried that my half-hearted effort would disappoint him! But no; he was impressed. It's all I've ever wanted.

I really like how responsible Yosuke is. It's a surprising trait for the character, in a way, but it works.

Ken looking to Yosuke for advice about what to do with the killer of someone you care about!

'Yosuke-kun's always cheerful, isn't he? But he's also very considerate.' Thank you, Fuuka! Nice to see Yosuke getting some appreciation.

Rise and Naoto comment that Yosuke is kind and caring! Yosuke usually gets dunked on and criticised relentlessly, so I'm ridiculously pleased to see him get some credit.

Literally all my notes so far are about Yosuke. Can you tell who my favourite Persona character is?

THAT SAID, Yosuke said, 'You know how ridiculous that sounds, right?' when I said gender didn't matter if there's love, and I'm annoyed about it. Screw you, Yosuke; I'm doing this for us.

Yosuke's canonical homophobia would be a lot less frustrating if it were explicitly BECAUSE HE'S REPRESSING HIS FEELINGS, AS IN THE ORIGINAL PLAN. Why did Persona 4 cut his romance route? It would have added so much to his character to leave it in!

Of course Persona 3 protagonist Kosuke immediately drinks the mysterious tea in the labyrinth. There is absolutely nothing in that boy's head. (Slightly regretting my decision to name him Kosuke now that he's in the same game as Yosuke.)

I told Yosuke I'd buy him something to eat later, and he said, 'Nah, man. You don't have to do that! Sorry if I'm making you worried or anything.' He doesn't understand that I'm trying to ask him on a date.

Yukari was just very rude to Yosuke and I was slightly taken aback. Don't ask 'are you done talking' when someone's telling you the story of how his dad injured himself! I usually like Yukari a lot and she's in my permanent team (alongside Yosuke, Kanji, Zen/Rei and the Persona 4 protagonist), but that definitely lost her a few points.

Is Yukiko a little bit into Kosuke? That's very cute.

Rise's also struck by Kosuke. I suppose the protagonists maintain their 'romancing everyone' powers even outside their own games.

I called our team the Super Dragon Rangers, because I am a genius. Mysteriously, not everyone liked it.

'You fix Yosuke with a gentle gaze...' WHY CAN'T I KISS HIM

I was really hoping the mysterious matchmaker would pair me up with Yosuke, but it paired me up with Koromaru, who is admittedly a pretty strong choice.

(Turns out it was all just a setup for the clergyman to try to murder us, so I did not actually end up marrying the dog.)

Some of the characters in Persona Q have better portrayals than others. Akihiko's portrayal, in particular, is a shame; it feels like the game has forgotten everything that made him interesting and endearing in Persona 3. But, overall, this game is fun crossover nonsense and I'm having a good time.

God, I can't deal with how Atlus treats Akihiko post-P3. He's written like an adrenaline-seeking idiot (there's a subplot in the fighting game where he punches a bear, I'm pretty sure; and that's one whole thing Persona now has in common with Riverdale, which is at least three things too many) when, like. In his originating game, he is the one who makes the initial connection between Boss Shadows and the full moon. He makes the entirely correct supposition that Fuuka is experiencing time fluctuations due to being trapped in school during the dark hour. And he's so sensitive to Mitsuru's pain and uncertainty! He is not, and has never been, an idiot. And he never brings up protein in conversation himself, to the best of my recollection. Other people bring it up around him because it's a fact they know about him! It's not his entire conversation dictionary!

Who did you choose as your main, P3 or P4?

(Also, just so you know, this game made me cry very hard despite being fun chibi crossover nonsense.)

I played as Minato Kosuke, because I'm a loyal P3 stan. And the matchmaker set me up with Aigis! I was thrilled. Although I wouldn't be surprised if I had tailored my answers with that goal in mind.

I need to get back to PQ (and PQ2). That game got me to fall down the Etrian Odyssey rabbit hole (... pun intended, considering the first dungeon in PQ), and it has been a long and amazing journey since then.
