rionaleonhart: final fantasy viii: found a draw point! no one can draw... (you're a terrible artist)

It's A Shame My Hands Aren't My Feet.

More Taskmaster! We're halfway through series ten. Goodness knows what I'll do with myself when we run out.

Seeing Ed Gamble dressed as a donkey while people play Buckaroo with him really drives home the fact that this is the kinkiest show on mainstream British television.

holy shit, that lengthy sequence of Greg and Alex whispering with their faces right up to each other

TURNS OUT THERE'S AN EVEN LONGER VERSION IN AN OUTTAKE, OH WOW. I love that Alex is clearly wondering for most of it whether he's about to get kissed.

Ginger: Riona, I'm going to ask you a question I may not want to know the answer to. How did you find that extended clip of the Taskmaster whispering scene?
Riona: I - I was just searching for the actual clip from the episode.
Ginger: Follow-up question: why were you looking for that clip?
Riona: I don't appreciate all these questions, Ginger.

Rereading one of my old Danganronpa 2 fics, I'm horrified to realise that Komaeda reminds me of Alex Horne. Just in the way he's incredibly obliging, to a weird extent, but also quietly reluctant and bitter when it's something he really doesn't want to do.

I feel everyone involved in series nine somehow sensed that social distancing was coming, and went 'better get up close to Alex and fuck with him as much as possible before everyone's fucking-with-Alex options become much more restricted'.

(I sometimes catch myself planning out how to dom Alex to victory on particular tasks. Impress this mayor. What are politicians impressed by? Power. Dom Alex Horne.)

I enjoyed Greg getting increasingly freaked out by Jo's prowess at Horse or Laminator.

Disintegrating laughing at hypercompetitive Ed and hapless David being paired up for the 'draw on your teammate's back' task.

I smiled at how excited all the other contestants were that David Baddiel won that episode. Also enjoyed Greg thinking that Rose Matafeo just... happened to have a semi-nude snowglobe of herself lying around.

Although Rose was probably my favourite contestant in the lineup, I'm glad Ed Gamble won series nine, because I'm slightly afraid he'd have killed everyone in the studio if he hadn't.

Series ten is definitely the weakest series of Taskmaster for me. The competitors feel like they lack chemistry (although Mawaan is very endearing), and, unfortunately, Johnny Vegas is there. But it's not bad television; I'm still entertained. Even at its weakest, Taskmaster remains a worthwhile watch.

I laughed so hard at Daisy May Cooper's upside-down chicken film. Truly a masterpiece.

I'm enjoying Katherine going into every task with a very sensible air and then being a disaster, too. I loved every moment of her catapult attempt. Beautiful. Alex awkwardly trying to fire shoes from her feet while struggling not to collapse laughing.

Awww, I like Katherine hugging Alex to celebrate when she finishes the 'make the phone ring' task. They've got a good dynamic going on!

Something about Alex makes almost every possible interaction with him delightful. I love it when people are nice to him. I love it when people torture him. I love that he manages to seem uncomfortable either way.

I keep catching myself humming the Taskmaster theme as I go about my day.

That outtake is blocked in the US! This is difficult! I feel like one or both of us needs to get a VPN in order to facilitate this conversation. XD

I did find someone that uploaded a bunch of outtakes which are accessible in the US. Is this the outtake in question?

Alex is so weird. It's great. (Also, Greg, if you don't want the internet to run with your overt eroticism, maybe try being less overt? Actually, given the internet, that probably wouldn't help. But still.)

The Countdown clip is from the end of S22E01, and contains this glorious exchange:
Jimmy Carr: Susie, could they have done any better?

Susie Dent: "Cowgirl" was there for seven.

Rob Beckett: Auuugh. I actually write "cowgirl" down in a search engine most days, and I can't believe I missed it!

(General laughter. Roisin Conaty claps.)

Jimmy Carr: Oh, you mucky pup!

Rob Beckett: We're allowed to hug now!

Jimmy Carr: (Clearly taken aback.) Um...!

Roisin Conaty: You can't put any of that in a string!

Rob Beckett: (With undiminished enthusiasm.) I'm just saying, though! If we wanted to have sex, it wouldn't be illegal, me and you.

Jimmy Carr: (Long silence.)

Jimmy Carr: (Alright, let's do this, then! Hits the table.) We've got a finale for the show!

Rob Beckett: Just saying! Just new rules, new life, new me. I'm post-COVID! I will–

Roisin Conaty: That was the only thing stopping you before?

Rob Beckett: It's not a sexual thing; it's more an intrigue of what is underneath the suit. I don't think I'll get off on it and I don't think I'd do it again, but what a story I'd have!

Joe Wilkinson: Rob? I wouldn't bother. He makes you sign something.

I'm not sure I can deal with the awkwardness of actually listening to Greg listen to Actual Smutty Fanfiction, but his reaction to learning that there was such a thing was weirdly adorable. "I would have bet my life that we would not be in anyone's fantasy." Ah, Greg. You have much to learn about human nature.

[That's the outtake! I feel Asim's 'I want them to just... I don't know' is exactly the correct response to Greg and Alex's dynamic.]

Listen, Asim, we're all feeling urges we've never been compelled to feel before.

S09E09 has finished, and never have I been more concerned that a contestant was going to murder another contestant on stage in front of a live studio audience.

During the team "make a cup of tea" task, when the kids ask Alex if he's going to taste the tea, you can actually hear Alex's soul attempting to leave his body.

...what I've just realized, because I never saw any of the Alex and Greg whispering to each other bit at all when I watched S09, is that the version on Amazon has edited out all the transitions into and out of the commercial breaks, because of course there are no commercial breaks either. How much of this show have I missed? Amazon! I knew you were evil, but not like this!

Well. We'll always have YouTube?
