Horizon Mario Kart.
I've almost finished Horizon Forbidden West; I think I must be just before the final mission! This entry contains spoilers up to that point, and also for the optional Gauntlet Run questline.
I suspect Erend's going to have a lot of 'I'm worthless; it should have been me' feelings about Varl.
I laughed aloud at Aloy examining a painting of semi-nude figures and asking 'Aren't Selene and Endymion cold?'
Aloy calls Beta her sister! That's a nice moment, although it does make me suspect that we're not going to get to make out with our fellow clone.
Riona: I'm starting to think I'm not going to get to make out with Beta.
Ginger: I mean, she's basically your identical twin.
Riona: Yep!
Ginger: ...I forgot you were in Supernatural fandom.
Given that greenshine is a hardened form of Blaze, I feel that using it to upgrade armour should worsen your fire resistance.
Zo suggests sparring and Erend says, 'If beating the crap out of me makes you feel better, I'm all for it.' My heart!
Ikkotah was definitely in love with Marshal Chekkotah. (I wrote that before Aloy said, 'You two, you were more than friends.' If even Aloy can see it, you're very in love.)
I was NOT EXPECTING Tilda and Elisabet to have been girlfriends. Raises interesting questions about exactly how Tilda perceives Beta and Aloy.
Aloy and Sylens really need to bang. I wouldn't say I ship them, exactly, but they would have great hatesex.
Basically, I can't picture Aloy having a romantic relationship with anyone, but I want her to bang everyone while they all go 'I want more than this :('. Except Sylens, who'll take the hatesex while going 'I'm above this, you know.'
Oh, goddammit, I'm going to have to do the races. I've just learnt that I can see MY MURDER BOYFRIEND NIL if I do them, and I'm excited about that! But that means I'm going to have to race. I can't believe this.
Why couldn't you require killing quests instead of racing ones, Nil? That's much more your thing.
Aloy seems to enjoy the races, though! She's under so much pressure all the time; it's nice to see her have fun.
'Seeing such carnage unleashed on the track was... breathtaking.' 'Wouldn't want you pointing that bow at me if you didn't mean it.' God, I've missed Nil.
I'm almost glad I lost my first attempt at race four, just to hear Nil say 'Win or lose, all that matters is the rush of death ringing in your ears right now.'
I talked to Nil to start the race, then backed out, and he said, 'Waiting will make the ride all the sweeter.' When I did it again: 'I can wait. I know you'll be worth it.' I just really love how creepy Nil is, and I'm ecstatic to have him being creepy at me again.
'You tried to run me off the track.'
'A reunion with an old partner deserves more than a handshake, don't you think?'
'We killed bandits together, Nil. For different reasons. I'm not sure we were partners.'
'I am. Now more than ever.'
God, he's so in murderlove with Aloy. It's great.
'I believe you know this. Or else you wouldn't be here.' I always love Nil going 'you and I are the same, Aloy' and Aloy going 'oh, God, please tell me we aren't.'
Also, I have a scrap of a fic where Aloy runs into Nil in the Forbidden West and goes 'you're walking around in Tenakth territory... in Carja armour?' and he goes 'it's the best, people just throw themselves at you to be killed', and apparently that is indeed canonically something Nil's been up to?
This game does not have enough Nil content, but it has more than zero Nil content, and I'm so pleased about that. I didn't think there was any chance he'd be in this game, given that you can kill him in the preceding one! 'Let's leave him out, and then either outcome can be canon' is the obvious decision, but I'm glad the developers went with 'you know, Nil is fun; let's put him in, even if it contradicts some people's playthroughs.'
This is a really wonderful game. I'm going to miss it when it's over. I'm enjoying Aloy as a protagonist; I think she's come into her own as a character since Horizon Zero Dawn, although of course that game was also excellent.
