You're singing along to a song, but the chorus is out of your range.

View Answers

I switch octaves for the chorus; I pitch my voice lower or higher so I can continue singing. I generally find this easy to do.
25 (53.2%)

I try to switch octaves, but I generally find it tricky.
7 (14.9%)

I try to sing along with the original notes, even though I know I can't hit them.
15 (31.9%)

I just don't sing the chorus.
1 (2.1%)

I have no sense of pitch and probably don't even notice it's out of my range.
6 (12.8%)

I stop playing the song and throw my music-playing device out of the window in a rage.
1 (2.1%)

I don't really sing along to songs.
2 (4.3%)

Something else?
6 (12.8%)

If you do something else, what is it?

Of the very limited number of constellations I can name off the top of my head, what's your favourite?

What's your overall favourite constellation, if it isn't in that list (and assuming you have a favourite constellation at all)?

Tell me a fictional character you're currently weird about and the way in which you're weird about them. (Feel free to define 'being weird about a fictional character' in whatever way you choose.)

I answered that I would easily switch octaves when singing along to a popular song, and that's mostly true unless it's only one or two notes that's out of range in which case I'd probably just skip them or, if I can swing it (not always guaranteed, my musical knowledge is haphazard) switch to something that harmonizes, which I would loosely define as "not an octave lower/higher but it sounds nice and doesn't clash".

I love the Southern Cross! When I was in Fiji, I could see it from my house, and I'd go nightswimming in my pool and float around and look up at it, and it was really nice.

Hooray, participation! It should be noted that while I can tell whether something's in my range or not, my adherence to "tune" and "key" is very. Debatable.

What indeed is the point of having OCs if not to be weird about them?

I generally don't notice that a song is out of my range until I start singing it, and then I try to shift up or down an octave and notice that that causes a different part of the song to fall out of my range, and then I get flustered and try to restart the song shifted by a half-octave or something, and then I remember why I just don't sing.

And my favorite constellation is Orion because it is the only constellation I can reliably identify. 😐 I love astronomy, but I am not a skilled observer.

I mean, season 1 is definitely a mistake! I feel like they had 2.5 good episodes in the whole season, and they're at the bookends of the season, and they're a 1990s value of "good". XD

Stargate: SG1 definitely has its moments, and I am forever grateful to it for being a longtime fannish home, but it sure does have a lot of moments which are really not its moments. But a whole bunch of its characters live in my head rent-free, and they're welcome to stay as long as they like.

(Disconcertingly, recently they've been teaming up with an extraordinarily AU'd Jack Harkness who sometimes turns into a demon, and who is also busily misleading everyone around him into thinking he's a perfectly normal 30-something civilian who just happens to not be able to die because of some alien stuff. It's... kinda both more creepy and more adorable than it has any right to be? Come to think of it, I may also be currently weird about Jack Harkness, but a version of Jack Harkness who's been filtered through one massively multifandom AU into a massively multifandom LiveJournal RPG and out into a third significantly less multifandom AU. It's AU turtles all the way down.)

I do not do anything as effective as intentionally switching octaves, I just Go For It and regret nothing. I find it most comfy to sing along with contraltos (provided I've warmed up) but I'll also do that thing that I want to call falsetto but I am unconfident that's the right word for it. Anyway that thing where your voice sounds weird and strained.

Damn right! Having fun is the most important.

Well right now I am all about a young man named Yoru from an explicit BL oneshot and I expended a lot of my social capacity promoting it for an exchange, so I did not want to do it again. Apologies for the vaguing on your poll, though! That was a bit rude of me.

Cassiopeia is my favorite constellation, because I used to have a set of beauty marks on my arm in the same shape of it. (alas, one of the marks has faded enough that it's no longer there. shame, because I got such a kick out of it)

If it's sonically sound, I'd be able to switch octaves without much difficulty.

Orion is my favorite constellation. My mom would point it out to me when I was little.

Reading through the poll answers and snorted at your pride in Light Yagami. Don't know enough about the character to know how he'd respond to that pride, but sadly based on what little I do know I don't think he's the kind of murderer who'd be fixed by someone being proud of him. Which I guess is fortunate for you, a person who likes their characters wildly dysfunctional.

There is one particular song where I can't hit the notes, and that's Rest in Peace from Buffy the musical, I just sound flat.

I am running on four hours of sleep, so I might have gotten muddled re: the constellation question—I was trying to figure out if you used the term constellation correctly or not (I'm pretty sure you did!). For zodiac constellations, I'm pretty fond of Ophiuchus, if only because no one can agree how it is meant to be pronounced.

The answer is definitely not Cepheus, though—! As that little jerk cost me a mark on an astronomy quiz a few months ago.

And I was thinking of Mark from Persona 1!

Hello!
I just realized how weird it must be on dreamwidth to have a complete stranger participating in your poll. I am sorry!
I was browsing the Explore page and stumbled upon your blog. I wasn't thinking I just immediately filled out the poll because I am used to public/shareable poll posts on tumblr and twitter. I did not realize how the culture in dreamwidth might be different from those social media sites. Sorry again!

Thank you!! I still don't know the etiquettes on dreamwidth because I have been active only on tumblr and twitter.
I hope you have a nice day!
