The Pride Lands of Daaaarkness!
Oct. 6th, 2006 01:14 pmRiona: Hello.
Riona's Cat: (says nothing)
Riona: Do you know where the cutlery drawer is?
Riona's Cat: (does not answer)
Riona: ...
Riona's Cat: (continues not to answer)
Riona: (light finally dawning) Oh, right...

'There was a point to this story, but it has temporarily escaped the chronicler's mind' is definitely one of my favourite ending lines of a book ever. My other is from the short story Don't Look Now by Daphne du Maurier, but it's a spoiler so I'm going to black it out:
I mean, come on. You can't not love that. (I liked the characters in the short story much more than I did their counterparts in the film. I wish I'd read the story first.)

The hammering and the voices and the barking dog grew fainter, and, "Oh, God," he thought, "what a bloody silly way to die..."
