rionaleonhart: kingdom hearts: sora, riku and kairi having a friendly chat. (and they returned home)
(This entry contains spoilers for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire! I'm assuming that anyone who cares will, by this point, have read the book or seen the film, so I'm not putting them under a cut, but I'll stick this warning up just in case. If I do manage to spoil anyone, I am very sorry for ruining your fifteen-year unspoiled streak.)

I've been rereading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and I was slightly startled to find there were tears in my eyes at the end of the second task. I always remember Fleur panicking over her sister and fighting to get back into the water - it made a huge impact on me the first time I read this book - but I'd completely forgotten that Percy was also freaking out about Ron.

Dumbledore and Ludo Bagman stood beaming at Harry and Ron from the shore as they swam nearer, but Percy, who looked very white and somehow much younger than usual, came splashing out to meet them.

It's a lovely moment for a character who's usually treated as a bit of a joke.

Another thing I remember from the first time I read this book: I really, really liked Moody and I felt so betrayed by the revelations towards the end. If I fall in love with a character and then they die, I can handle that. (I have to be able to handle that; I'm a Dangan Ronpa fan.) But don't make me fall in love with a character and then reveal that the character I loved essentially never existed! Don't retroactively rob me of my love! That's just cruel!

Am I actually talking about something other people care about? Can't have that. What's the most incomprehensible, jargon-filled Homestuck opinion I can possibly express?

Got it.

Karkat and Kanaya as moirails seems to be a fairly popular Homestuck pairing, but it's also one that attracts a fair bit of backlash because Kanaya, by word of God, is a lesbian by human standards. I don't think that necessarily rules out moirallegiance (even if you ignore my general stance that liking a pairing shouldn't be considered a moral issue); Kanaya has canonically auspisticised for pairings involving male trolls, after all, so it's likely 'by human standards' means 'on the concupiscent side of things'. That's not the trouble with a Karkat/Kanaya moirallegiance. The trouble with it, although I do quite like the idea, is that they're both relatively even-tempered trolls! Well, er, Karkat is constantly furious, but they're both relatively undangerous trolls. If Kanaya is keeping Karkat in check as his moirail, that means that both Kanaya and Karkat's potential to keep much more dangerous trolls in check is wasted! Honestly, it's almost as if your romantic leanings aren't motivated by purely practical considerations.

Thank goodness. For a moment this journal was in serious danger of becoming accessible.
