The Contract Has Been Sealed.
Sep. 28th, 2020 09:09 amTen minutes into Persona 5 and the protagonist had already been thrown to the floor, stepped on and kicked in the ribs. I thought 'might as well try this out, it's only £10 in the sale', and it's already paid off.
I made the minor error of naming the protagonist after my housemate, thus potentially making my entries about this game very confusing. Unless otherwise specified, my mentions of Rei when talking about this game refer to the protagonist of Persona 5, rather than to the Rei I live with.
I'd heard this game was stylish, but it is so stylish. So much thought has gone into the visual design of every single element. (Other games I've played that have a very strong sense of style, if that's something that appeals to you: The World Ends with You, Okami, Gris, Transistor.)
Everyone's extremely rude to poor Rei.
Weirdly detailed commuting-to-school-on-the-train simulator. You have to run around a station in search of the right platform for your change and everything.
I'm oddly fond of Ryuji already. Angry teenagers: my weakness! (Possibly I also like him because he's the only person so far who hasn't been a dick to me for no reason.)
Everyone stop saying terrible things about my new best friend! (I don't know if we're technically friends yet, but it seems like being imprisoned in your magical castle school by a near-nude gym teacher king should be a bonding experience.)
omg, Ryuji wants me to meet him on the rooftop, I can't believe he wants to make out with me.
Ryuji going 'even if it was a dream, you saved me in it, so thanks' is pretty cute.
'I feel like we might get along just fine as troublemakers. I'll come talk if I see you around. Don't ignore me, all right?' I made a friend!! Nobody likes me in this place; I'm glad to have Ryuji on my side.
'Knowledge: Oblivious. Guts: Milquetoast. Charm: Existent. Kindness: Inoffensive. Proficiency: Bumbling.' I've never been so dunked on by a stats screen.
I've never played a Persona game before. It's a confusing experience, but I'm having fun so far!
