You're A Psychopath Who Bakes For Money.
Oct. 21st, 2020 10:29 pmRiona: Yesterday, I saw someone online asking whether Persona 5 is an accurate reflection of Japan.
Rei: Yes. When I was in Japan, hardly a day went by when I didn't wake up in the middle of the night with fucking shadow thieves in my heart.
(EDIT: WAIT, THIS WAS MY HOUSEMATE REI, NOT PERSONA 5 PROTAGONIST REI. Whoops. I knew naming him after my housemate would come back to bite me.)
Morgana did his excited treasure 'mrrrrrow!' and Dipper, sitting on my lap, was very alarmed.
Okay, it's kind of great that the newspaper club member asks you what you think of Akechi and you can reply, 'He's too pretty to be wrong.'
Makoto approaching 'what do kids my age actually like to do? how can I connect with them? where do they go for fun?' like a scientific investigation - and then getting slightly too into playing at the arcade - is cute as hell. I love her and she's my new top-priority confidant now that I've maxed out Ryuji.
Eiko thinking I'm Makoto's boyfriend and Makoto being thrown by it is also great. We'll see if this tests my resolution not to romance anyone.
A good way into the game, the writing sort of forgets Ryuji's early outrage at the exploitation of women and starts occasionally making him talk about GIRLS, GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS in slightly uncomfortable ways. This is a shame, but, as it suddenly started so far in and contradicts his early writing, I can't help thinking that he suddenly realised he was in love with Rei and went WAIT, SHIT, CAN'T LET ANYONE KNOW ABOUT MY BOY FEELINGS, BETTER START TALKING ABOUT GIRLS.
FAKE DATING WITH MAKOTO. This is great. I love that you can respond to 'you'll have to play the role of my boyfriend' straight away with 'I got this'.
'So I was thinkin' about the future. With you as the leader, and me as your right-hand man...' Is Ryuji going to propose to me?
I'M NOT CHARMING ENOUGH TO BE MAKOTO'S FAKE BOYFRIEND
I'm studying with Ryuji and he said, 'I guess I'll try super hard 'cause you're here, Rei,' and I will never be over the injustice of being unable to romance him.
Aww, Ann asks me to see a film with her because she gets weepy and it's embarrassing to go alone! I'm pretty invested in all of the friendships in this game.
I laughed aloud when Ryuji said 'Aren't heroes who lurk in the shadows boring?' and I said 'I like the shade' and Ryuji immediately deflated my attempt to sound cool by retorting, 'What are you, moss?'
I finished in the top ten in my exams! Now I keep overhearing everyone going 'huh, maybe the delinquent with a criminal record is actually a serious student?' as I run around the school and I am VINDICATED.
'You actually are pretty smart, huh. You showed me.' Yes! Take that, Sojiro.
This entry's getting a bit long, so I'll save the rest of my rambling for another day! I've just finished the fourth Palace.
