I have such conflicted and confused feelings about this game, and it's been hard to work out how to express them. I think I might have pinned it down: I like Final Fantasy XVI, but it's not what I look for in a Final Fantasy game. In particular, there's much less focus on travelling with companions than there is in most Final Fantasy games, and I've been struggling with that.
If Final Fantasy XVI had been published under a different name, I think my feelings would be uncomplicatedly positive. I just need to embrace the fact that I'm playing a game I enjoy, without worrying about what series it's a part of.
