I'm Not Like You; I Have An Amazing Hat.
Oh, Merlin. I love that, even when there are ridiculously huge plotholes (ahahaha, all the 'how do we get you out of Camelot?' business and failed escape attempts and then OH HEY SUDDEN CUT THEY'RE BY THE LAKE DON'T QUESTION IT TOO MUCH OKAY) and Merlin falls into infinite depths of True Love in ten seconds flat and then his ladyfriend tragically dies for no adequately explained reason (seriously, I'm sure I would have been very affected were I not so busy going '...er, wait, what exactly killed her?'; I think perhaps she was wounded in her Bastet-form, but it certainly wasn't clear), this silly anachronistic series makes me so happy.
Freya's Bastet-form was adorable. I want a soft toy version. (How exactly did the bounty hunter not notice that his captive turned into a winged cat considerably larger than the cage in which he was holding her every night? Oh, never mind; it's Merlin. It is charming and delightful and ridiculous and it doesn't have to make sense.)
There's a bit of an 'oh, dear, Merlin/Arthur has lost his love, but DON'T WORRY HE STILL HAS ARTHUR/MERLIN' (by which I mean that the two of them have each other, not that Merlin and Arthur are consoling themselves by reading slashfic) recurring theme at the end of love-interest episodes, isn't there? By which I mean ASFSDFGHSHSFJHSJFGH THEY ARE SO CUTE. BOYS. (Please, please hug before the series is out, boys; I'm not sure I'll be able to cope if you don't.)
Arthur! You love your servant so much! I love the 'look, he cares really' scenes. And I love how quickly they devolve into mocking each other again.
(Freya's name is making me think of Freya Crescent of Final Fantasy IX. Freya Crescent would probably have had an even more difficult time escaping Camelot, as she is very obviously non-human all the time. No, wait: she could jump over the walls. Problem solved!
...I never noticed it before, but in that picture it is clear that Freya's 'ears' are in fact attached to her helmet. I always thought they were her actual ears. I do not want to rearrange my mental image of Freya to be devoid of awesome ears!
Now I am trying to imagine how Merlin/Freya Crescent would work. I think Merlin would be a bit unsettled to realise he was falling in love with someone so obviously non-human, but - oh, look, she's already over the walls and away. The answer to the question 'but how would that pairing work?': it wouldn't.)
There's something rather nice about having something I can just love wholeheartedly without caring about plot issues or historical accuracy. Merlin is fun, and I love all the characters, and that's all I need from it. I wish there were a new episode to make me smile like an idiot every week, but I imagine that would be rather taxing for the actors.
This series has generally had more Arthur-and-Merlin interaction than the first, which is delightful, because their dynamic is my favourite. Keep it up, Merlin! (Let's have some more Gwen-and-Morgana as well. And, hey, Arthur and Morgana haven't interacted for ages, have they? They have quite a fun relationship. Look, let's just have an episode in which Arthur, Merlin, Gwen and Morgana all go on an adorable adventure together.)

I bet they are, though.
