This may well be further proof of my Utter Lack of Taste, but I’ve taken to watching Scrubs recently. It’s got a protagonist who’s a little bit insane, the Janitor From Hell, a rather quirky and utterly mad sense of humour that I really, really adore, and also an incredibly sarcastic doctor whom I adore even more. Scrubs clearly knows The Way To My Heart, and it has taken the most direct route. Oh yes.

Seriously, just one of those things on the list would have been enough for me to fall in love with it. The fact that it also has Slightly Insane Protagonist/Incredibly Sarcastic Doctor subtext (when JD is absently staring for nonsexual reasons at Doctor Cox’s crotch area: “...well, I’m thrilled you approve, but for the last time: I’m up here. I’m up here. *whistles* I’m up here!”) makes me suspect that someone has actually studied me in order to find out everything I could possibly want in a TV programme and created Scrubs just to make me happy. I would like to thank that person. A lot.

It’s also got me back into reading fanfiction, which I haven’t been doing for a while. Scrubs is the sort of thing I really wish I could write fanfiction about, because I love its tone and it would be marvellous to write something for once that, y’know, isn’t completely saturated with angst. Not that Scrubs doesn’t have its fair share of angst, because it certainly does, but it’s not completely saturated. But I don’t have the slightest handle on the tone or the characters (I can’t write Americans why can I not write Americans?) or anything remotely doctorly, so I’m going to have to hold off writing for a while. For now, I am happy because I have been able to find some marvellous fanfiction that keeps to the spirit of the show and is also JD/Cox.

Yes, I’m predictable and shallow. What’s your point?

I'm still shocked that I can't find any Turk/JD. I mean, it utterly makes sense. I'm not actually really up to date with the episodes we have, because Dad just loves it and managed to outpace me by watching it all the damn time. ...Actually, it's the same with my mother and The West Wing. BUT JOKE'S ON THEM I'M STILL AHEAD WITH AVATAR. ...because they're not watching it.

But, yes, I love the janitor. I don't see how one could not love the janitor.

The lack of Turk/JD surprised me as well. Seriously, after seeing a couple of episodes I thought wow, there'll be Turk/JD all over the fandom, and then I went to look, and I found one. One! And it wasn't even good!

People write Cox/JD more than Turk/JD? I wondered. However can this be?

Then I watched a few more episodes and I totally got Cox/JD.

I still don't understand why there's no Turk/JD, though. OR JANITOR/EVERYONE. HOORAY FOR JANITOR.

My strange, incomprehensible tragedy with Scrubs is that I actually buy Turk and JD as a loving, heterosexual friendship. They're so sweet and open and tender and unashamed of their feelings, how could I read in something more? How? It would be like punishing a puppy for widdling where you've told it to. Or something. Whereas JD/Cox is the greatest angsty crazy love affair ever. JD's unashamed, helpless, undignified, abject adoration of Cox MELTS MY HEART TO GOOSH. Their love is so pure and magical! omg!

JANITOR/EVERYONE OH MY GOD YES. Janitor/JD. HOW I HAVE LONGED FOR THAT FIC FROM DAY ONE.

...well, actually, my 'slash' fic tends not to be any more than 'adoration/obsession depending on how screwed-up the relationship is and maybe possibly kisses', which - in the case of Turk and JD - is all canon anyway! I can't see Turk and JD actually having sex, while Cox and JD could probably have a quick wild fumble in a storage cupboard somewhere with lots of heavy breathing and girls' names.

It is an American sitcom set in a hospital! The main character is a newly doctorified young man called J.D., and we get to hear his thoughts and watch his bizarre daydreams and see the Incredibly Scary Janitor making his life utterly miserable! My favourite character is Dr. Cox, who seems to have been doctorified for some time, and he is cynical and sarcastic and hates everybody and throws chairs through windows and kidnaps J.D. in the middle of the night and drags him to a bar in his pyjamas! IT IS TRUE LOVE.

This is CLEARLY true love! I obviously fail as an American. Is there somewhere I can get hold of this or shall I just mourn my third-world country lifestyle until I return to the states this summer?

There is one where JD is playing pool with Cox and Ben and I sweaaaar Cox leans his chin on JD's shoulder when he moves past. So cute omg!

Unfortunately, I always end up missing Scrubs - or it's on at the same time as a different television show and I have not that DVR and/or Tivo technology.

I haven't even admitted my love for that pairing to my friends who actually watch the show. :P And I'm trying to convert more people to be Scrubs fans, because wow.
