But You Love Me.

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes! You are all so lovely. ♥! I've now been plunged back into the tremendously stressful world of housemate-hunting, but the day itself really was wonderful.

Still in the process of posting my old fanfiction to [livejournal.com profile] riona_archivic; I'm around the end of 2005 now, and have stumbled across the first instance of my becoming far too involved in something that had literally no fandom, something I was to do many times in the future.

In late 2005, in a fit of madness, I wrote about forty (admittedly very short) works of fanfiction for a modern adaptation of Macbeth, set in a restaurant. This adaptation was produced by the BBC as part of their ShakespeaRe-Told series; it starred James McAvoy and Keeley Hawes (I was amazed to discover this on looking back at it, as at the time I'd never heard of her), and the prophecy came from supernatural binmen. Few people watched it, even fewer talked about it, and certainly nobody was writing ridiculous amounts of Macbeth/Banquo fanfiction. Except me.

Out of nostalgic curiosity, I just checked YouTube to find out whether the scene that made me feel the need to write ridiculous amounts of Macbeth/Banquo fanfiction had been uploaded.

Here it is. It's at 8m35s; the link should lead directly to that time on the video.

It is even gayer than I remembered, and I remembered that scene being really, really gay. Torchwood has nothing on this. (Banquo, I should note, in case earlier parts of this entry have caused any confusion, is not played by Keeley Hawes.)

The realisation that Keeley Hawes was in this adaptation is making some part of my mind wonder whether an Ashes to Ashes/Macbeth crossover could work. The answer: almost certainly not. Definitely not with Alex Drake in the role of Lady Macbeth, as killing Duncan wouldn't even have occurred to her. MACBETH: THE TALE OF A MAN WHO WAS TOLD HE WOULD BE KING AND THEN DIDN'T REALLY DO ANYTHING.

Perhaps Gene and the team try to solve the mysterious murders of Duncan and Banquo? NO NO NO THIS IS STILL A TERRIBLE IDEA.

Speaking of stupid Shakespearean crossovers, though, I'd love to see a production of Othello in which Iago is played by the parrot of the same name from Disney's Aladdin.

I WATCHED THAT. :D It was really good, as was the Shakespeare Re-Told version of The Taming Of The Shrew.

I'd love to see a production of Othello in which Iago is played by the parrot of the same name from Disney's Aladdin.

I. I just got out my copy of Othello and I am reading his speeches in Act 1 Scene 3 in my head, imagining them read in the voice of parrot!Iago. Um. I'm kinda doubled over laughing atm

Oh-oh my.

They do sound similar.

And Banquo is played by Maria's Hot Dad from The Sarah Jane Adventures, so I like to pretend that he didn't die, but he simply changed his name and is now hiding.

And you should watch one of the adaptations, The Taming of the Shrew one has David Mitchell!

Well you haven't really got room for any more, have you? Otherwise you'd be too crowded.

The Taming of the Shrew one has David Mitchell!

I had completely forgotten about that! *squee*

I really loved those adaptations. Holy crap, James McAvoy and Keeley Hawes? Epic hotness.

I originally found you because of Macbeth. You seemed to be the only person in the entire internet who'd watched it and I think I was checking back here for new fic just about every day. I've slightly loved Joseph Millson ever since. I thought I recognised your title, imagine how pleased I was to be reminded of my beloved Macbeth.

I think I friended you in the Macbeth days and then instantly got scared that was rude and stalkerish and ran away again until we discovered Top Gear.
I hugely doubt I commented at the time but since there were only a handful of Macbeth fics in existence, I'm glad it was you who wrote them all because I seem to remember them being really good. I seem to remember I was having a bit of a tough time around then and that certainly helped brighten things up.

Did Riona write all of them?

One day I'm going to get you to watch Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot. I think you would enjoy it and the fandom at it's peak had about eleven people in it, so it's right up your alley!

*ahem*

I actually remember reading about your Macbeth/Banquo ramblings last summer while trawling through your old posts, and finding them amusing. Didn't read the fic as I had no idea what was on though.

! Riona, you wrote these when you were fifteen. How are they so good?

They're all...deep, and meaningful, and poetic and beautiful and the way they flow.

Also they are making me 'ship Macbeth/Banquo even more than that clip made me.

You create such a world and make them so believable and fucked-up and your dialogueee is subtle and brilliant and I 'ship it ridiculously now.

How weird - I went to see a production of Macbeth the other day (in Worthing, actually, so you might possibly have seen it) and one of the friends I was with mentioned that adaptation. So that's at least one other person who has seen it and talked about it, although she didn't mention having written any fanfic.

*Hands you a net for help with the house mate hunting.*
