The Man Who Crosses The Road Wears A Hat.
I've been watching the Jeremy Brett and Edward Hardwicke dramatisation of the Sherlock Holmes short stories, and I am absolutely thrilled to bits by the portrayal of Watson.
As I understand it, most Sherlock Holmes productions make Watson into 'the bumbling sidekick' who exists only to provide a contrast to Holmes' OMGGENIUS. In this, though, Watson actually often has more of a role to play than in the original stories, and he is always clearly intelligent and takes an active role in solving cases. He discusses things with Holmes! He works things out! He assaults suspected kidnappers! He is generally much more of a character in his own right than he is usually made out to be - more of a friend and less of a foil. At one point Holmes borrows Watson's revolver and enthusiastically re-enacts a crime with it, with the result of its being catapulted into a river, and Watson just looks at him and says "My revolver, Holmes," and it is the most wonderful quietly exasperated tone ever.
WHY, YES, I AM AN ENORMOUS WATSON FANGIRL. I AM NOT GOING TO SAY THAT HE IS ON OCCASION DISTURBINGLY ATTRACTIVE FOR A MAN RATHER GETTING ON IN YEARS WITH AN EXCEPTIONALLY SILLY MOUSTACHE
Also his relationship with Holmes is lovely and wonderful. (When I first started reading the Sherlock Holmes stories, I didn't really like Holmes himself that much. I'm not entirely sure when that changed, but I think it may have been when I discovered that he was absolutely barking mad.)
I will now talk about House, because I want to and also it seems appropriate after all this Watson-fangirling, as Wilson is an incarnation of Watson who I am allowed to find hot.
While I usually like Cameron, because awww she is adorable and when people don't like her she goes all wide-eyed and pretends not to be hurt and I cannot deny the urge to hug her constantly, the whole forcing-House-to-go-on-a-date thing and the insisting that he 'has feelings for her' annoys me. Please don't do that, Cameron. I was originally going to say 'be more adorable and less annoying', but then it occurred to me that if Cameron actually did become any more adorable the Universe could very well explode.
On the subject of adorability, Wilson trying to make sure that Cameron won't hurt House is the cutest thing ever.
I am becoming much more of a Cuddy fan than I was originally, because I have realised that she is awesome, and I think that I might actually be beginning to find the idea of House/Cuddy rather appealing. This is all your fault,

The oddness of this, however, is nothing to the utter ridiculousness of my entirely unexpected sneaking fondness for House/Chase. I think that this is the first pairing I've ever developed an interest in solely because one of the characters' reactions to being kissed/groped/hit-on would be amazing.
I mean, seriously. House says, "It will be most cost-efficient once I've grabbed Cameron's ass, called Foreman a spade, and Chase... well, I can grab his ass too."
Can you imagine the expression on Chase's face?
It would be absolutely beautiful. I would pay to see that. Chase really does have some fantastic expressions, doesn't he? I'm really rather enamoured of the idea of House kissing Wilson when he knows Chase is about to walk in, just to see his reaction.
Yes, in spite of all these strange pairings infiltrating my brain, I think I'm first and foremost a House/Wilson fan. I do realise that this is a huge mistake and that the fandom is completely off its rocker, but for God's sake, it's right there. You can't ignore it. They're being adorable and in-love whether I like it or not, so I may as well like it.
(Did I mention that "You're right, House is adorable. I just want to hold him and never let go." is the best line ever? Well, it is.)
