Inexplicably, They Haven't Put 'A Killier Waterloo Road' On The Posters.

Recently, I found myself thinking 'hmm, I've heard good things about How to Get Away with Murder. Maybe I should watch it? I should find out a bit more about what it is first.'

So I opened Google, and then I was struck by the terrible realisation that I was about to type 'how to get away with murder' into the search bar.

I ended up searching for 'how to get away with murder television', just in case the eyes of the government were on me.

I'm now about twelve episodes in!

My verdict so far: How to Get Away with Murder is entertainingly ridiculous (it's a sort of killier Waterloo Road) and I'm enjoying it a lot, but none of the couples in it have a shred of chemistry. It's slightly bizarre. Particular mention goes to Laurel and Frank, two people who seem to want nothing more than to be at opposite ends of the continent.

(Laurel and Wes, who are not a couple, have good chemistry! I can't work out whether it's just friend chemistry or sexual chemistry, though. Not that the two are necessarily mutually exclusive. They can just be friends who kiss sometimes. I'd be fine with that.)

The sheer quantity of infidelity in How to Get Away with Murder borders on the hilarious. Lila, Lila's boyfriend, Connor, Laurel, Frank, Annalise, Nate, Sam: all of them cheating on someone. Many of them cheating on each other with other people in this list. I'm not even counting one-off case-of-the-week characters.

The case-of-the-week structure is actually sort of fascinating. You naturally want the main characters to succeed, but in this show the success of the main characters usually entails ensuring that a terrible scumbag doesn't go to prison.

Incidentally, it bothers me that the one case where Annalise went 'no, screw you, I'm not representing you any more' involved one of the less scumbag clients. SHE'D MADE MISTAKES, BUT SHE WAS TRYING TO DO THE RIGHT THING. M... MOSTLY. All right, she did slightly kidnap and endanger a child, but she gave her up, and she was only facing court because she defied her husband and got the girls rescued! You can't tell me she was worse than the creepy guy whose defence was 'look, I definitely didn't kill my wife, and you can tell because the method is nothing like the way I killed my other wife'.

I'm absolutely convinced that Bonnie is in love with Annalise. I'm not sure what it was that convinced me of this, but I'M CONVINCED and I will be sorely disappointed if I turn out to be imagining things.

An exchange with one of my Visitorverse co-writers:

VampireBadger: No! No, Altair and Desmond are not going to make out! Stop it, don't you dare write them together.
Riona: VAMPIREBADGER, YOU KNOW THAT TELLING ME TO STAY AWAY FROM HAYTHAM/AVELINE JUST MADE ME THROW MORE WEIRD HAYTHAM/AVELINE IMPLICATIONS IN.
VampireBadger: YES BUT ENCOURAGING YOU TO WRITE WEIRD PAIRINGS ALSO RESULTS IN WEIRD PAIRINGS. THERE IS NO WAY TO WIN WITH YOU, RIONA.

I think this is the best thing anyone's ever said to me. (I have not, incidentally, written Altaïr and Desmond making out. Although I did write a scene on which multiple people commented to say '...I'm pretty sure you were picturing those two making out when you wrote this,' and they were absolutely right.)

In other news, we are two episodes into the final series of Peep Show and I've realised once more how deeply invested I am in Mark/Jeremy. If Peep Show doesn't end with Mark and Jeremy falling into some sort of awful self-loathing mess of a sexual relationship, I will sob.

Sorry, I don't really know any of these fandoms, so all I've taken from this entry is that you've come a ways since the day you ran that Red Dead Redemption search for "fucking cougars" (or something to that effect).

More and more, I want Mark to decide to try, but then it goes horribly wrong for some reason, so they're still flatmates, but not even good at sex.

There is more Peep Show! I have to figure out how to get it! (I have a region-free DVD player, so I can get it eventually, I think? )

So my "Want to watch, but can't get my hands on" list is:
Sens8
London Spy
Ash v. Evil Dead
Last season of Peep Show

I want them so much! If they were downloadable, I could buy them, but streaming needs smoother internet than I have.

Mark/Jeremy "Not exactly happily-ever-after, but at least our mutual dependence comes with added sex" is clearly the best ending.
