Hamster continues to progress. Look at that, an actual title!

Good news on Richard Hammond's condition: he's been moved from intensive care into a high-dependency ward, and the doctors say he's making 'satisfactory progress'. His condition is now considered 'stable', rather than 'serious but stable'. (Have a source.)

Also, there have been some lovely and reassuring statements from his co-presenters:

From Jeremy:
“I was being nice to him for a change.
“But I wasn’t getting any reaction. He probably thought ‘That sounds like Clarkson but it can’t be — he’s saying nice things’.
“He was lying peacefully with a black eye but didn’t react so I tried something else.
“I said: ‘The reason you’re here is because you’re a crap driver’. He then smiled at me.
“It was an amazing moment, very moving.”

From James:
"He tried to sit up when I came in and he gave me a sort of grin, which I have to say was a very uplifting moment for me," he said. "I had a bit of an unmanly moment at that point.
"I was chuffed to see him and although he's muttering, he seems much like the irritating little shit I know and love. Even when he can't say much, he seemed to make as much sense as he does when he can talk normally."

They're such a wonderful team. I am incredibly touched.

Yes, I know that I've been making rather a lot of entries about this, but I'm worried about him and so are you. Admit it. Everyone in the world loves Richard Hammond and you know it.

I LOVE THEM ALL. Sorry, this neccessitates use of capslock. *hugs*

Even the Fandom Wank people are worried. And the ones on my other message boards. I had no idea they liked Top Gear.

"Even the Fandom Wank people are worried."

That is, when we're not busy playfully arguing which OTP is best one ;)

But yeah, it is cool to see support from so many different directions!

[identity profile] melata-fic.livejournal.com 2006-09-22 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
It was just wonderfully ironic, because I saw the post and expected people to be their usual snarking selves. Instead there were posts of love and well-wishing and OTPs. It felt odd.

There is no OTP. It is the three of them taking on the world with their special brand of crazy. :D OT3 if you must.

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2006-09-22 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Us FW'ers can be very snarky, but we're not going to kick a man when he's down, especially not when there are bigger idiots to mock. It happened in most of the wanks surrounding Steve Irwin's death as well. There was a lot of 'Well, he did dangerous things but the people who say he deserved it are idiots' and most people were just sad that Irwin was gone.

"It is the three of them taking on the world with their special brand of crazy."

Stop being so sensible about it :p.

[identity profile] melata-fic.livejournal.com 2006-09-22 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
*nods* Too right.

It's not sensible. I am comparing them to the Discworld witches, sorta. ;D Silliest comparison ever, but yes. OT3 (and maybe cars as well).

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2006-09-22 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"OT3 (and maybe cars as well)."

What do you mean, maybe? No maybe about it!

[identity profile] melata-fic.livejournal.com 2006-09-22 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes it's a crossover? *grin*

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2006-09-22 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Especially when they shag IN a car :D

[identity profile] melata-fic.livejournal.com 2006-09-22 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
When everything is okay with Hammond, I shall ask you for recs of this sort of fic. Damn...

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2006-09-22 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Me? I can't rec anything! I vote you join the slash community so you can have a search through their memories section.

[identity profile] melata-fic.livejournal.com 2006-09-22 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you just interested in the theoretical, then?

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2006-09-22 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm horrible at writing actual NC-17 smut, that's what.

[identity profile] melata-fic.livejournal.com 2006-09-23 08:50 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, true. NC-17 is a bit past my RPS threshold, sometimes.

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2006-09-23 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It's way beyond my threshold.

Now watch me write graphic NC-17 smut RPS in a few years...

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2006-09-23 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
That's how it works! A few months ago I was all 'Bah, real person fic, I shall never write it, eww' and now I've got three Top Gear fics to my name!

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2006-09-23 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god.

We ARE doomed.

I hope that my RPS NC-17 smutfic won't be completely horrible, because I just KNOW that because of some freak incident I will be forced to write one.

So, you want your Red Dwarf/Top Gear crossover now? I figured I'd wait until you were over your Hamster anxiety :)

That reminds me, don't think I didn't spot your Captain Jack/Top Gear thing. *wags finger* will there be more?

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2006-09-23 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't think I'll really be able to write any Top Gear fic until he's properly recovered and out of hospital."

I can wait :D

...Right, let's think of something then... surely they'll be messing with the hologram computer whatsit *starts thinking of all the thing that will go wrong while queuing up latest House MD episode in WinAmp*

[identity profile] melata-fic.livejournal.com 2006-09-23 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I can accept the kinds where there are zombies, or something so it's clearly not real, but some of the detail in them makes me edgy.

Sometimes it happens that way for me, too. ;)

I was gonna drop you a line about this, but you're clearly way ahead. Should have known, really. They are a wonderful team.

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2006-09-22 10:53 am (UTC)(link)
Hurrah! And yes, I've had loads of people on my f-list sort of end their entry with this!

And yay for satisfactory recovery!

*feels great love for all three of them*

You're my main source of news on this - you're awesome, seriously.

Thank God he's out of IC. And Jeremy and James somehow have me cracking up and all 'awwww!' at the same time. XD

[identity profile] draegonhawke.livejournal.com 2006-09-22 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[Jeremy and James are being ridiculously adorable. I love them.]

These people have, like, renewed my faith in humanity.

I mean, they're still being giant boys about it ("I said: ‘The reason you’re here is because you’re a crap driver’. He then smiled at me." "he seems much like the irritating little shit I know and love."), but there's so much under it. (I know it may seem silly or crass to make fandom comparisons at this point, but Jeremy's reaction is something I've seen analogues of in SG1 canon/fandom and is one of the things that sold me. Utterlyin-character compassion.)

't's good to know he's got such friends.

Everyone in the world loves Richard Hammond and you know it.

I.

It's true.

[identity profile] squeemu.livejournal.com 2006-09-22 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm really glad you're updating so much too. I'm pretty much relying on your posts to keep me up to date and I definitely want to be kept up to date. And the links! The links are good.

It is so wonderful to hear he's doing better, and it's so reassuring to hear they're all interacting normally. Ish. Clarkson said nice things to him! And of course he only smiled at the mean remarks! So reassuring.

[identity profile] bbakerb.livejournal.com 2006-09-22 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I LOVE them. I do. And thank you so much for doing all these updates. They are lovely and make me feel a bit better and get not quite so anxious when I see a scary headline.
