Because I'm Hitting That. And It's Totally Hot.
I just watched House episode 305, 'Fools for Love', and I will admit to getting rather emotional at the end. I absolutely want to marry Foreman now.
I agree with what Foreman said: if you're not actually brought up in a familial relationship, blood ties alone mean very little. The concept of Ed and Al having a sexual relationship makes me rather uncomfortable because they are siblings, born and raised as siblings. Mr. Knightley/Emma also makes me uneasy, even though they're not actually related, because their relationship is like that of a father and daughter. Oedipus having sex with his mother doesn't bother me at all. He doesn't know she's his mother; she doesn't know he's his son; there has never been a filial relationship. It disturbs me a little when he, y'know, stabs out his eyes, but for completely different reasons. (I so wanted to tag this entry 'but what are your thoughts on incest?', but that would have been a spoiler.)
The couple in that episode were lovely. Finding out that they were half-siblings didn't affect the way in which I looked at them in the slightest; it just made me feel sorry for them.
And Foreman was so lovely! He wanted to protect them from the revelation and tried to reassure them and awww, Foreman. I love him so much.
On another note, I was very pleased by House obsessing over Wilson's love life, because he obsesses in the same lunatic way over Dr. Cox and JD in the House/Scrubs crossover. It's so nice to see a trait you're sure a character has come out in canon. (The 'MAN, I'M AWESOME' ends here, I promise.)
There wasn't much Cameron in this episode (that's another thing: it's nice to see another character being very sympathetic for once), but she was being rather awesome when she did appear. Hooray for Cameron!
Finally, oh the House/Wilson, and also I started noticing Chase/Foreman in this episode for almost the first time. Am I determined to fall in love with every single pairing possible? It's got to the stage at which it would be quicker to list the pairings I don't support.
Overall, I approve of this episode. I approve of it a lot.

I agree with you that parents and their children, or siblings, tend to have a certain kind of tie that you don't really find anywhere else. But I don't think it's because of any kind of blood link; it's just that their relationship is, from start to finish, made and maintained in a way very different to that of someone outside the family.
...if you know what I mean.
And I'd probably have a bit of trouble with the idea that people with that kind of link could become lovers. But the same goes for friends who are so close they're like siblings, or a younger person who sort of 'adopts' an older one as a parent. Or vice versa. (Um, I mean an older person adopting a younger one as the child they never had, not an older person adopting a younger one as a parent. That's a wee bit creepy.)
That said, depending on how it's worked, it's not entirely inconceivable that I wouldn't ship an incest pairing. I see Ed/Al in some situations, although if you search for it on fanfiction.net it is generally written in such a way as to make you want to DASH YOUR BRAINS OUT AGAINST THE WALL...but...yes. I can see it for some people.
...
If this comment made any sense at all, I demand a cookie.

Ahem. Anyway, that's pretty much exactly how I see it (what you said, not 'OH MY GOD LIVEJOURNAL YOU SUCK'): for me, the concept of 'incest' is more to do with the emotional relationship than anything genetic. I'd consider a sexual relationship between adoptive siblings more 'incestuous' than, for example, the couple in this episode, who, although they had the same father, had no idea that they were related and weren't brought up together.
Also, WHAT DO YOU HAVE AGAINST PEOPLE ADOPTING YOUNGER PEOPLE AS PARENTS, HUH? NO COOKIE FOR YOU.

The fact that people older than me have previously seen fit to make me substitute mother, and it's CRUSHED MY BRAIN.

I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE?! GLEE.
... Right, we were talking about House. Man, I liked it, but the ending of that episode made me sad. Especially with them ending up in different rooms after everything that had just happened and just... *sad faces*

Especially House/Wilson. Because of the blatant love. *nods like she isn't guilty of also pairing everyone with every single other person ever*

(Er, by the way, I haven't really introduced myself, have I? Basically, I checked out your Livejournal after you reviewed the House/Scrubs crossover (thank you, by the way!), flicked through your recent entries, came across your hilarious squeeful Torchwood recaps, went 'OH MY GOD I LIKE THIS PERSON LOTS' and added you. Hello!)

- LOVE. Seriously, I have always adored Holmes and Watson. *pets them*
As for House and Wilson, I'm not always sure of my stance about Wilson but I love House and his gittishness (totally a word, shush) and OH GOD SOMEONE SHOULD WRITE HOUSE/COX. That's me busy then. *headdesk*
(Hello! I'm glad you like me! I looked through your recent entries a couple of weeks ago, being drawn here through the Torchwood community, but got shy and didn't friend you. But then you beat me to the overcoming the shyness thing! *waves like a freak*)

Damn them. It would indeed be amazing.
Although I don't know, I might get emotional for JD and Wilson and their futile love. Yes, yes, I am this pathetic.

I stand by Cameron's annoyingness though.

Cameron was actually the first House character I fell in love with, which took me completely by surprise. I never usually fall for the sympathetic female character, but it is awesome because they have made her niceness into a genuine flaw. SHE IS LOVELY AND I LOVE HER. I can completely understand finding her annoying, though, because she really can be.

(SHE JUST LOOKED AT ME WITH THOSE HURT PUPPY EYES AND I WAS LOST.)
ALSO YOU PUT AN APOSTROPHE BEFORE 'THOUGH'. I FIND THIS RIDICULOUSLY CHARMING.

Cameron is just so self-righteous and… ethical. She got points for the ‘I’m hitting that, and it’s totally hot’ comment, but it’s just not enough awesome to redeem her in my eyes. Plus she’s totally getting in the way of House and Wilson’s true love.
OF COURSE I DID. IT WAS AN ABBREVIATION OF ‘ALTHOUGH’. *is charming, nevertheless*

I REALISE IT IS AN ABBREVIATION OF 'ALTHOUGH'. IT IS JUST THAT I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYONE WHO ACTUALLY, UM, APOSTROPHISED IT.
(Psst! Send an e-mail to the gmail address in my profile. I need your address for completely not-sinister purposes.)

But they keep filling the main-character-sexual-love-interest/tension quota with her D: if they must do it with anyone, at least let it be Cuddy. She has the whole ‘hear me roar’ thing going for her.
… I find the idea of House/that cop guy strangely fascinating now.
AND YOU’RE POSSIBLY THE FIRST PERSON TO HAVE EVER REALISED *glees*
(Done and done)

Excellent. (Watch the final minute of 'Fools for Love'! He pulls up House's jacket to expose his stomach and lingers for no apparent reason. HOUSE/COP FOR EVER.)

HAH. YES. I was too busy admiring Hugh's stomach to think about it at the time, but there was so lingering. And I nominate you to write about it.
