You Know, I Thought The Shadow Thing Would Be Figurative.

And so we come to the finale, and the first half of it is a truly Jackcentric episode! It's about bloody time.

Captain Jack Harkness/Captain Jack Harkness was wonderful. From the moment they met I was thinking 'oh, please let there be Jack/Jack', and then every scene between them was just a little bit slashier, and the end of every scene seemed as if it might be their last parting, so I was thinking 'WTF IT CAN'T END THERE' every time. And then it was the actual ending of their encounter - and then there was the real actual ending, in which we finally got the snogging that the entire episode had been progressively teasing us with.

Torchwood is a fangirl's dream. (Also, I sincerely hope that the fandom starts calling it 'Jackack' or 'JackcaJ' or something similarly ridiculous. I'm not generally one for pairing names, but I do have a certain fondness for the particularly bizarre ones. Are people calling Gwen/Tosh 'Gosh' yet?)

'Captain Jack Harkness' was, I think, my favourite episode of the series. I thought that they built up the relationship between Jack and 'James' very well, especially considering that they only had an episode in real time and an evening in Torchwood time to do so. Also, how many fandoms are there where you can think 'he should totally kiss him' and then have it actually happen? I hadn't been spoiled for this episode at all, so there was always an element of 'will they?' suspense, which was lovely because I had been spoiled for practically all the other overtly slashy moments in the series.

I have realised, with this finale, that I actually liked Torchwood rather more than I thought I did (or perhaps these episodes were just particularly good?). I mean, when Jack was taken away by the TARDIS, I realised - to my absolute astonishment - that I was actually sort of distressed. I would never have expected to be anything less than thrilled by the Doctor's coming for Jack, but it turns out that, without my even realising it, I have become fond of the Torchwood team and Jack's place within it and his relationships with his colleagues.

Speaking of which, I should probably mention the kiss with Ianto. It was treated as something very normal and natural and unremarkable - or, at least, as close as you can get to those things when you're welcoming your lover back from the dead - which was actually quite nice, because it was Torchwood saying 'Look, it doesn't always have to be "LOOK, WE HAVE HOMOSEXUALITY, AREN'T WE EDGY AND AVANT-GARDE" because a homosexual relationship can be treated as a normal relationship that just happens to be between two men or women.'

ALSO OMG RHYS. OMG OMG OMG RHYS. I ABSOLUTELY HAD A FIT WHEN SHE HAD THE VISION AND WHEN HE WAS STABBED AND I THOUGHT THERE WAS NO HOPE AND HE WOULD NEVER COME BACK TO LIFE BUT HE DID! HE DID! THANK YOU, TORCHWOOD, I LOVE YOU.

Also, gigantic demon bull destroying the world with its killer shadow: most ridiculous thing on Torchwood to date?

Ha! Well, you can take it if you want. I made it in slight overexcitement when the picture first got leaked, and then decided that I wouldn't allow myself to upload it before it actually happened for the good of people who didn't want to see the picture, and now I feel legitimate in using it I am bearing it with me all over lj as a shining beacon of gay. Or something.
