An Expert On Soybean Powder.
Persona 3 FES continues! I think I'm somewhere in late June.
Kosuke going 'yes, I'll give this shady "hey there, hot high school student, want to make your fortune" guy 20,000 yen' is not doing anything to change my headcanon that he is extremely stupid.
Bebe is ridiculous, but his enthusiasm is pretty cute. What a sweet kid. I'm worried about him.
Yukari sort of reminds me of Final Fantasy X's Yuna at some points, but I can't work out exactly how. I suppose they're both considerate with a fearless streak. I love that Yukari was so passionate about research that she nearly dragged us all into a fight with some thugs.
Akihiko strikes me as a guy who'd give really good hugs, but it never occurs to him to hug anyone, so nobody gets to experience them. What a waste. (This is why people read this journal, I assume. Where else are you going to get this sort of insightful character analysis?)
'I’m glad she wants to be part of the team. I’m looking forward to the next mission.' Akihiko's very sweet, and it still takes me by surprise every time. I can't get past the moment I first saw his character design and went, 'Well, obviously this guy is going to be an arsehole.'
Speaking of confused expectations: I'd heard you needed maximum courage to start Fuuka's social link, so I was expecting Fuuka to be hugely intimidating. Turns out she's very polite and soft-spoken and you just need to be brave enough to eat her experimental cooking.
While Kenji is still far from my favourite social link, I did enjoy the line 'Kenji is talking to himself and doesn't seem as if he'll ever stop'.
Koromaru is a very good boy! But I asked 'can I pet him?' and was told 'yes, you can pet him' and then didn't get to pet him, which is frankly outrageous.
Wait, there are security cameras in our bedrooms? That doesn't seem right, particularly as the security recordings appear to be freely accessible in an unlocked room.
Predictions for how Kosuke's dormmates would react if they saw him having sex on the security camera:
- Yukari or Fuuka would be shocked and embarrassed.
- Junpei would be alarmingly enthused and bombard us with questions about it for weeks.
- Mitsuru would calmly disregard it as irrelevant, just like all the recordings of Kosuke studying into the night.
- Akihiko would assume we were just wrestling.

Akihiko is my favourite of the party (with everyone else coming as a close second) and possibly my favourite character among the whole franchise. This is the first time I've heard that particular take! I mean, look at that smile. He's practically a puppy.
July's a fun month! I think you will like it.

(Anonymous) 2021-02-03 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)I don't know why this surprises you given you live with dorm mates who were literally looking at your body readings while you sleep during the very beginning part of the game. :P
I'm curious about your take on Junpei so far. I hadn't realised you were aware he was the predecessor of Yosuke and Ryuji, and wonder if that's altered your impression any - because there are a lot of archetypes that were borrowed from him, but in other ways he's really quite different.

That is... a very good point. (In my draft of my first entry on this game, after 'Shuji's only just introduced himself and I already don't trust him', there was actually a line I wrote after hitting that scene: 'WOW, OKAY, GUESS I SHOULDN'T TRUST ANYONE HERE.' I ended up cutting it because I thought it might be too spoilery to put out in the open.)

To be honest, it has; I slightly resent him for not being Yosuke or Ryuji. Sorry you had to face unfair expectations from the start, Junpei! (Although my unfair expectations aren't necessarily insurmountable; after all, I expected to resent Yosuke for not being Ryuji and was startled when I fell in love with him instead.) My main impression of Junpei so far is that he has the 'issues about women' quality of the other two, but he lacks the insecurity and intense love for the protagonist that endeared them to me.

(Also, it hadn't occurred to me before your comment, but, given Junpei's characterisation, I'm really curious to see how he interacts with the female protagonist. I'll have to look it up once I've finished the game!)

I'm cackling at your predictions because 100%, absolutely.
