Whatever Lies Beyond This Morning.
I've just finished episode four of Life Is Strange: True Colors!
The 'take away Pike's fear' versus 'sign the affidavit' choice was AWFUL. I signed the affidavit - I'd made a pretty firm decision not to mess with people's emotions like that - but I wasn't happy about it!
There should really be a polyamory option. Alex explicitly considers giving a rose to either Ryan or Steph; she's into both of them, and I think they'd be okay with their relationships coexisting!
But, in this world where you can only choose one of the romance paths, I'm compelled to choose the darker one, which means I'm pursuing Ryan.
('I can see why they decided to make the femslash option the happy, uncomplicated one in this game,' Rei said, and then, in darker tones, 'even if it means Riona will make the wrong decision.')
Alex and Ryan kissed, and I went, 'Well, this is cute, but I'm sort of disappointed by the lack of guilt and trauma in this scene,' and then Ryan's dad SHOT ALEX later that evening and I was delighted. Just when I was starting to think this pairing wasn't fucked up enough, it became doubly fucked up!
And Jed's sad about it! He genuinely likes Alex; he doesn't want to harm her! He must know this is going to wreck his son, too.
I've got a weakness for conflicted characters who do terrible things because they feel cornered into it, and I'm glad that's the sort of villain Jed's turned out to be. I did wonder whether Jed could be trusted - he's the most major character with a strong connection to the mines, after all; I did not have a good feeling about him bringing Alex out to an isolated spot - but his kindness to Alex felt sincere, and I found it hard to picture him being malicious for the sake of it.
Incredibly Kingdom Hearts shot of Alex falling down the mine shaft at the end of the episode. I hope episode five starts with her meeting Sora in the Dive to the Heart.
And now Ryan's going to have to deal with the double guilt of 'I killed Alex's brother' and 'my father was involved in the cover-up and tried to kill Alex' as they desperately try to build a relationship around that! This is so good.
Er, you know, assuming Alex survived the ending of that episode. I'm not going to have an opportunity to play past that cliffhanger for another fortnight at least.
I can't wait to play episode five. Which is unfortunate, because I'm going to have to wait to play episode five.

Right? Fucking A!
If I'm being honest, I didn't terribly enjoy part five on its own, but there are some implications for it that I'm desperate to discuss with you. Hurry! On Dasher, on Dancer, on Nixon! Mush!
I think they'd be okay with their relationships coexisting!
I'm not sure I'd agree with that, for reasons that I'll explain when you finish (they lead into very light spoiler territory, but it's the culmination of a pattern I noticed and didn't love).

I'm really looking forward to finally being able to read your post on this game once I've finished! I've had it bookmarked ever since you posted it.
