You Can't Help Me.

I've finished the third season of Lost and I am, appropriately enough, feeling extremely lost right now.

'Greatest Hits': I don't feel good about getting a Charlie-centric episode after all Desmond's visions of Charlie dying.

Charlie hugging Hurley and telling him he loves him got me straight in the heart.

Also hit me pretty hard when Charlie wrote 'the night I met you' and I realised he was writing this list to Claire.

'Through the Looking Glass': I don't approve of Jack's facial hair in this flashback at all. I'm glad he takes the time to shave on the island.

Once again, I'm getting confused by my own fanfiction into thinking everyone's in a giant polyamorous relationship. For an instant, I genuinely expected Jack and Sayid to kiss goodbye.

Loving the vulnerability of Jack on the edge of tears as he asks his ex-wife if she can give him a lift home from the hospital.

The Others keep causing a lot of problems for my friends and I wish they would stop it.

I was not at all expecting Jack to say 'because I love you' to Kate there! My heart skipped a beat! I suppose having that reaction means I officially ship this, after my rocky start with the pairing.

I'm often not a fan of 'I love you' as a romantic confession - it's a phrase I tend to avoid in my fanfiction - but I think the context is a big part of the reason that line really worked for me. Jack's not confessing to Kate in the hope of starting a relationship; I don't think he has any expectations in that direction at this point. He knows Kate's sleeping with Sawyer; he knows Kate's just seen Juliet kiss him, and he's not trying to excuse or minimise that in the way he might if he thought he had a chance with Kate. He's just telling Kate he's in love with her; it's just a fact. He doesn't need anything from her. He just wants her to know.

As with 'I'm sorry I kissed you'/'I'm not', this is a moment of startling emotional honesty from Jack. It's interesting to me that, in both those moments of honesty, he clearly thinks about what he's going to say beforehand and reaches a decision to be vulnerable. He's not an especially open person, but, when he shows his heart to Kate, it's always intentional; he doesn't blurt anything out.

Given this whole Sawyer/Kate/Jack/Juliet mess, I'm starting to feel that a giant polyamorous relationship would make things a lot simpler for everyone.

Hurley! I could have cheered when he drove onto the beach.

Jack's such a mess. ♥

Holy fuck! Holy fuck, holy fuck! Holy fuck!

I knew at some point there was a seeming flashback that would actually turn out to be a flashforward to after they get off the island, and yet it still managed to blindside me completely because I assumed it would be in the final episode; I didn't think it would be at the end of season three! Holy shit!

Something about this 'flashback' didn't feel right, didn't fit with my image of Jack's past; this explains so much!

I love Jack obsessively flying across the Pacific and hoping he'll crash back onto the island. What an absolute disaster of a man.

I'm losing my mind over this scene even though I was spoiled for it; I can't imagine what it must have been like to experience it at the time.

I have absolutely no idea where things are going from here, but let's find out!

I know season four of Lost was curtailed by the writers' strike of 2007-2008, which should be interesting, if not necessarily a positive for the show. I've seen shows that were impacted by the writers' strike before - House, Supernatural - but those were episodic shows and could lose a few episodes in the run without necessarily having too much of an impact on the plot. I imagine it was trickier to handle a curtailed season with something like Lost, in which everything happens all the time.

Oh man, I know that feeling. "Aren't they together? It would make so much sense!"

"I don't feel good about getting a Charlie-centric episode after all Desmond's visions of Charlie dying."
I'm sorry you were so very right!

Yeppp. Jack/Juliet = Jacket, btw, I don't know if it came up anywhere for you, but I like nifty ship names so I thought I'd share. :D

I feel like the writers' strike didn't affect the show THAT much (though there are other opinions) because it also did get renewed for three more seasons back during S3, so at this point it was known that S6 is when it ends.

I'm glad the flashforward got you depite being spoiled. :D
