Now It Is You Who Shall Bow To Me.
Some more notes on Final Fantasy XVI! I've just had a three-phase fight against Titan, which was frankly too many phases.
Jill's determination to commit murder is definitely helping to assuage my concerns that she was too nice and polite.
Oh, hey, we get to see Clive and Joshua's half-brother! Olivier, apparently.
I'm a little sad I got a better sword than the lightning one! It felt like a memento of Cid.
Even bandits trying to rob me think I'm hot. 'You take the handsome one,' one of them just instructed his hired help.
I love Clive's furious 'Don't you let her die' to himself when Jill is slated for execution.
TORGAL?? CAN TRANSFORM???
'I had thought the most I could hope for was to take the life of one he loved, just as he did to me.' Interesting that Hugo parallels Cid and Clive's relationship with his own relationship to Benedikta.
I'd forgotten Cid had a daughter! I'm glad we get to meet her, although I wish we could have seen Clive's first encounter with her. And of course she's extremely cheeky; I would expect nothing else.
Clive going 'I'm willing to wait as long as it takes' and then just standing there is hilarious.
'Is it business or pleasure?' Charon asks when we visit her shop. I think we're fuckbuddies with Charon. We've got great taste.
I wonder why I'm saying 'we' there. Am I referring to Clive and me-the-player? Does 'we' encompass you-the-reader? Looking at preceding entries, I refer to Clive as 'he' most of the time, but he's occasionally 'I' and rarely 'we'. Maybe I should attempt some actual analysis of what circumstances determine whether I refer to videogame protagonists in the third or the first person.
Clive puts his hood up and instantly becomes an Assassin's Creed character.
The scene in the inn, switching between Clive in the main dining hall and Joshua upstairs, really made me think about how cinematic this game is. Very different cutscene direction from any other Final Fantasy I've played. It feels like watching a television series sometimes.
Is L'ubor trans? I wasn't expecting a trans character in this game; it's cool to have that acknowledged as something that's recognised in this world!
He's definitely hitting on me. But, frankly, who isn't?
Huh. Maybe L'ubor isn't intended to be trans; sounds like he might just have inherited his master's name. Shame; I sort of liked the idea of having an explicitly trans character in a mediaeval fantasy game.
Harbard seems promisingly obnoxious. I do love an obnoxious character.
That Titan fight was way too long, but at least I was rewarded at the end by Clive clutching his head and screaming in pain.
This game includes a canonical M/M relationship between a blond prince and his dark-haired servant, which means I am doomed to think of Arthur and Merlin whenever they're on the screen.
I love that L'ubor laughs at the name 'Clive', because frankly I can't take it seriously either.

Titan was indeed way too long. I also didn't like the music in the second phase. I mean, it was a banger track but it sounded like tracks from XIV (not surprising, given they share a main composer) and I really felt it didn't fit in with the game.

Oh no, lol. Thankfully, that didn't occur to me as well. I *also* gasped and squealed in delight when their relationship was revealed. YES PLEASE.

I'll need to get a better idea of Dion and Terence before I can determine whether I personally ship it, but it's very cool to see a canonical, unavoidable romance between two named male characters in a major videogame release! I'm having a hard time thinking of another example from anything else I've played.

It really is!! That's great.

LOLLLLLL. Quite.
I love obnoxious characters, they're so fun :D

Ha, I love this!
I can't quite reconcile myself to the fact that he's supposed to be 19 though.
L'ubor is WHAT, that is NONSENSE. He looks twenty-three at the very youngest. Plus there's no way he was fourteen when Cid died; he was clearly banging Cid, just like every other character in this game.

(Regarding Clive and everyone calling him pretty: Can we also talk about male characters wearing a shirt that shows a bit of their chest? xD)
In another comment you said that you're still deciding if you ship Dion/Terence, so OBVIOUSLY I'm here to try to get more people to ship Dion/Joshua or, at the very least, to add Joshua to a Terence/Dion/Joshua OT3.
Dion has two hands and he can have two boyfriends. As a treat.

Hahahaha. I agree, it was so nice to see another side of Jill. She's always calm and supportive of Clive, so seeing her express rage and take action of her own volition was thrilling.
'Is it business or pleasure?' Charon asks when we visit her shop. I think we're fuckbuddies with Charon. We've got great taste.
The laugh I let out just now... XD Charon's sass is so delightful.
The scene in the inn, switching between Clive in the main dining hall and Joshua upstairs, really made me think about how cinematic this game is.
I don't know if you've played around with photo mode, but in this particular scene you can actually open it by the bar counter and get a good view of Uncle Byron casually drinking ale and eating some bread out of sight while Clive thrashes the Waloed soldiers. It's a true sitcom moment.
Harbard seems promisingly obnoxious. I do love an obnoxious character.
I just got through the Titan showdown myself, and I was surprised by how taken I was with Harbard for the tiny bit of screen time?! His hair is also amazing.

Yaaaay! I managed to avoid being spoiled on this while I was watching a let's play of this game initially, so the reveal put a huge smile on my face.
Super enjoying your FFXVI write ups! :D

Yes! I was going 'Jill spends all her time supporting Clive; is there anything she actually wants for herself?' and it turns out the answer is 'yes! she wants murder', which, as far as I'm concerned, is a pretty great answer to that question.

I did not know this, and I am absolutely delighted; what a great detail!
