A Disproportionate Number Of My Dreams Are About Trying To Catch Trains.
I definitely feel I've been remembering my dreams more often since I started posting these dream roundup entries. Interesting side effect!
Dreamt I was in an airport, struggling to get to the gate in time to catch a flight. My brother Joseph had, with my knowledge, taped a microchip from the inside of a musical greeting card to my passport, so it would play tinny music when I scanned it on things, which seems like a great way to get yourself jumped on by airport security.
I kept turning into an ant, too, which made it frustratingly difficult to hold my passport.
Dreamt of a cowboy called Nose Crows Mahose. The 'nose' was because he didn't have a nose. I think his actual name was Mahone, but everyone insisted on calling him Mahose so it would rhyme.
Dreamt my dad took me and my brothers to a bowling alley when we were kids - I was fifteen - and we all ended up having a playful food fight. When we were checking out afterwards, the staff tried to tell us a) not to have food fights, and b) that Dad could not claim the £75 discount he was trying to obtain if he didn't have ID. Dad pretended not to be fluent in English, and, to my simultaneous amusement and moderate annoyance, I was put in the position of 'translating' his unclear arguments. Going by the smile he was barely keeping in check, Dad was immensely pleased with himself for coming up with this strategy.
Dreamt of fireworks. In a lull in the fireworks, I suddenly realised how bright and intense the stars were in the night sky. I could see the edge of the Milky Way as a bright white cluster of stars in the darkness, like a little pile of diamonds.
Could see what appeared to be a black hole, surrounded by purple nebula-esque clouds, with those strangely intense stars in the background. An impressive sight, not a frightening one. I caught the eye of one of the strangers watching the fireworks, and we both started singing the Doctor Who theme.
Dreamt that Carla of Scrubs gave JD a gift, and JD decided to pretend to himself that it was a declaration of love, because he ships JD/Turk/Carla just as much as I do.
Dreamt there was an Until Dawn 3 (presumably following an Until Dawn 2?), and one of the unfortunate characters had the same name as me: both first name and surname. She didn't look exactly like me, but she definitely didn't look unlike me: similar skin tone, glasses, wavy dark brown hair. She actually looked a lot like Hannah from the first game, on reflection.
Dreamt there was a secret Danganronpa ending in which Naegi could obtain an apple that changed your sex and give it to Chihiro (who, in the dream, was delighted to receive it, although I personally usually interpret Chihiro as cis). And then Naegi, Chihiro and Mondo had a threesome over the credits, with Naegi in the middle. I went looking for Naegi/Chihiro/Mondo fanart after I woke up, and there isn't any. Can't believe the fanartists for this game aren't all drawing inspiration from my dreams.
Dreamt I was in a tall hedge maze with Rei and Ginger; we were all making our way through separately. The maze was modular; if you came to a dead end where there was still room for a new module, you could add a door and a new segment of maze. The goal was to be the person who got the furthest from the entrance, measured in doors you'd passed through, before one of the others found you.
Dreamt I was on holiday with my dad in New York, a place where, in real life, I have never been. I'd arranged to meet
necrophilia (who, I should note, is neither a New Yorker nor American) for a meal, for which I'd need to take a train.
I reached the train station (open-air, not underground), but I couldn't work out how to buy a ticket. I went to ask the two women at the help kiosk, but I was a little overwhelmed and stressed out and started crying while trying to ask. Concerned and sympathetic, they invited me to sit with them at a table and chatted with me to calm me down, mainly taking interest in the fact that I was English.
A couple of other Americans eventually joined us at the table, and then my dad turned up and also joined the conversation. I mentioned that my dad had said (earlier in the dream, not in real life) that you could buy anything in America, because 'no matter what it is, they'll have found a way to fold it into the capitalist machine'.
Eventually I remembered I was supposed to be meeting
necrophilia and woke up in a panic.
Finally, the dream of this batch that amused me the most:
Dreamt that Odo of Star Trek: DS9 came to our house and found a contraband chocolate orange and we were in big trouble.

Tempted to buy a chocolate orange now.

Counterpoint, this is fucking hilarious and someone should do it in real life.
I too have had dreams about the brilliant unpolluted night sky! How odd!

Ourageous, really

Sounds like it could genuinely work as an indie sprite game, doesn't it?

You're right, but that person should definitely not be me.

Huh, interesting! It's not the first time I've dreamt about a night sky that's far more intense than anything I've seen in reality. I wonder how common that is.

It probably could, now that you mention it!

First reaction: "Oh, that sounds like the gameplay loop of Betrayal at House on the Hill!"
Second reaction: CORN MAZE MEME
[Dreamt that Odo of Star Trek: DS9 came to our house and found a contraband chocolate orange and we were in big trouble.]
Spent a moment trying to work out if contraband chocolate oranges were a Britain thing or a dream-logic thing. I think my confusion arose from a specific British (or British-adjacent?) YouTuber I follow hating chocolate oranges, and then the whole Kinder Surprise being banned in the US thing.
("Kinder Surprise eggs are still illegal in the USA but remain popular on the black market" is the best thing I've read on Wikipedia today.)
The weird discount grocery near my house was carrying toffee chocolate oranges a while ago. That was a good time.

a) we do indeed have at least some, and
b) we call it a 'maize maze', which is frankly a much better name.
We also have chocolate oranges, and they are entirely legal. While writing this entry, I found myself wondering whether they exist in the US or whether Americans would just assume I was talking about, say, an orange dipped in chocolate, so thank you for answering that question!

That's great.Excellent.AMAZING.
[I found myself wondering whether they exist in the US or whether Americans would just assume I was talking about, say, an orange dipped in chocolate]
For some reason, and I'm not sure if this is a cultural thing, a deliberate marketing thing, or just how I've usually been exposed to them, but they have a pretty strong correlation with Christmas in my mind. Like, especially as a thing one would find in the toe of one's Christmas stocking. The weird discount grocery often carries stuff that's out of its US marketing season, so I gain no insight there.

clap clap clap
I also associate them with Christmas, and they've often turned up in the toes of our Christmas stockings! I always assumed that was just a thing my parents did; it's traditional to put an orange (or tangerine, or similar) in the toe of the stocking, and I thought they'd just decided to put a chocolate orange in sometimes as a fun little twist on the idea. Evidently they're not the only ones!

It was right there and it took me three tries.
[it's traditional to put an orange (or tangerine, or similar) in the toe of the stocking]
I'm peripherally aware of this as a tradition, though I don't know that I've ever encountered it personally. I wouldn't have been surprised if the "Chocolate orange in the stocking" was an American response to that because SUGAR, but it's cool to learn that it happens on both sides of the Atlantic!

(Anonymous) 2024-09-05 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)So apparently my dreams are mostly just about me having transport anxiety (which I do have!). And maybe a bit of losing friend anxiety too. The dream was a day before I met my friend to go on a trip on a train and I am highly anxious about keeping away from platform edges, as you can see! Also I drove my friend slightly mad as while they managed to cope with my severe train anxiety (which I'd forewarned them about), they stepped onto a road to check something on their satnav and a car was coming and I panicked and they got a bit frustrated that I seemed to think they didn't know what they were doing. I'm pretty sure I only reacted that hypervigilantly because of the creepy train dream the night before. I never told my friend! The other dream also related to transport going wrong, but it came a completely different way and with a less understandable source.
Typing it out definitely seems like it'd make a psychologist go "hmm" though!
I wish I had more fun dream anecdotes, but since all I remember is depression apparently, I guess this is what we get.

PS: Give me fun, fannish dreams instead, please!
