The Wooden Food Is A Dead Giveaway.

Sorry to post another dream roundup entry so soon after the last one! I've been having a lot of vivid dreams lately.

Dreamt that I was travelling through the zombie apocalypse with fourteen-year-old Ellie of The Last of Us. Extremely stressful, with a lot of climbing through windows and staying on guard for zombies and 'wait, where did Ellie wander off to?', but at least Ellie was a delight. At one point she made a post giving me shit on Tumblr and got very excited that 'it's got like two hundred likes! It's the most popular post I've ever made!', because apparently Tumblr somehow outlasted the apocalypse.

Dreamt of being in a building filled with slowly rising, wet sand. One room contained a large pit, which was the first part to fill; looking down into the pit, I could see a mouse scrambling to get to higher ground. At one point I set down my shoulder bag and, on remembering the situation and hastening to retrieve it, found it already half buried.

Dreamt Emma Watson was a fantastic singer, and there were scenes in which Hermione sang throughout the Harry Potter films to take advantage of the actress's talent. The first was in Prisoner of Azkaban and really left Harry and Ron reeling; they hadn't realised their friend could sing like that!

Dreamt that my aunt adopted eight children simultaneously, with ages ranging from six to twelve or so. Mum and I were slightly concerned that this would be impractical. Mum had offered to drive them somewhere, so we were trying to corral them all into the car; meanwhile, Mum kept implying that they'd presumably all be sent off to boarding school as soon as possible, and I tried to discourage her from saying that in front of the kids. It did not occur to me until I'd woken that we would never have managed to fit all of them in the car.

Dreamt I attended a lecture about Squall Leonhart of Final Fantasy VIII, which for some reason took place in a house we owned in Ireland. (I have never lived in Ireland.) The lecture was absolute nonsense, and I found it very frustrating to listen to someone being wrong about Squall. I almost left in the interval, but I lingered because one of the other guests happened to observe aloud that the lecturer had Final Fantasy tea towels in her bag, and I hoped she might be planning to hand them out at the end.

I woke, wrote down the above and went back to sleep, and the dream continued - I was still in Ireland, there was still a lecturer in my house - but now it was the zombie apocalypse and we were all desperately trying to survive.

Dreamt of being in a Disney ride/show, with rollercoaster segments interspersed with live 'walk through and interact with a scene' segments. The ride was about the long-term marriage of Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy from Spider-Man, or possibly of Nate and Elena from Uncharted, and how, as their marriage became rockier, it was reflected in Disney Castle (which, as in Kingdom Hearts, was where Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald etc. lived). The castle became dark and gloomy as the couple's marital problems grew, and all of the animal denizens were sad. I was playing either Peter Parker or Elena, depending on which couple I thought the show was about at the time.

Also, unrelatedly, [personal profile] magistrate had made an AI program that allowed you to interact with the Analogue: A Hate Story character *Hyun-ae by typing phrases. But... isn't that basically just Analogue: A Hate Story? I haven't thought about this game in a decade and barely remember it at all; I'm puzzled that it's showing up in my dreams.

I went back to sleep after writing this down, but apparently I was still at a Disney park in my head and dreamt of another Disney ride, this one Winnie-the-Pooh themed, called 'Kill the Honeybees', which seems tonally unsuited to Winnie-the-Pooh. At one point one of the honeybees landed directly on the crotch of my jeans and one of the other guests attacked it with a fly swatter and it was not, on balance, an experience I'd recommend.

Also dreamt that this theme park was in fact a world created by fairies and designed to keep us trapped in there? We kept trying to take the lift out of a ride and just found ourselves starting the ride again. Then we somehow managed to sneak into the open-air cafeteria where the park staff were collecting their lunch, from which we deduced that we were in an illusion created by fairies, because all the food being served was made of wood and, as we all know, illusory fairy worlds are all just made of wood if you scratch the surface. 'The wooden food is a dead giveaway,' one of my fellow captives commented. The fairies hadn't bothered to make the wooden food convincingly seem like real food because they weren't expecting their captives to end up in the staff cafeteria.

The staff weren't illusory; they were real people who were also in the fairy world, although in their case they were knowingly there, helping to support the illusion. They were not thrilled about having to eat wood.

Unsettling dream about a man who kept talking people into setting themselves on fire, in the earnest belief that he was helping them defeat malevolent entities that they were hallucinating. If you stand waist-high in petrol and then set it on fire, the dangerous moths you're plagued by will burn! The fact that you would also burn was apparently irrelevant.

The person he was trying to 'help' would stand there in a sea of petrol, and they would earnestly thank him, and then the dream would cut to a silent, distant shot of them burning. I most vividly remember the image of the woman who'd been plagued by hallucinatory moths: a figure in an old-fashioned full-length dress standing perfectly upright, on fire in the night, the imaginary moths a cluster of bright spots in the darkness as they burned nearby. Somehow, I'd forgotten that all the surrounding petrol would also burn; in my mind, it was only the woman and the moths on fire, while the man who had 'helped' her looked on, satisfied with a job well done.

Interesting that this batch has multiple instances of me waking up from a dream during the night and then going back into the same dream when I fall asleep again! I often wake briefly in the night, but resuming the same dream is unusual for me.

Before I went through this entry to format it, it hadn't occurred to me that I've also had multiple dreams about zombie apocalypses in the past few weeks. Huh.

Ahahaha, so relatable.

Upsetting :( As is the fire image!

I still remember this guy at a party being like "Korra/Asami wasn't properly foreshadowed and came out of nowhere" and I was like "HERE ARE MY PROOFS THAT KORRASAMI IS CANON" and he looked terrified. And I was instantly very apologetic because I'd basically brought a bazooka to a knife fight! I'd gone immediately into fandom-meta-battle mode and he was NOT ready.

Aw, fourteen-year-old Ellie would be very popular on post-apocalyptic Tumblr!

That would be a surreal ride, reflecting the marital conflicts. (I did an amusement park visit recently with a walk-through Mario ride, and some of them are weird.)

Oh, the man in the dream encouraging peple to set themselves on fire sounds extremely unsettling! also that's like a horror fiction idea right there.

There were a lot of bricks to hit in exchange for virtual coins, although I didn't see anyone using their heads.

Wow. I knew writing them down would help, but actually re-entering a dream after waking up to write it down is pretty amazing! It's fantastic how our dreams have such an internal and convincing logic.
"The castle became dark and gloomy as the couple's marital problems grew, and all of the animal denizens were sad." I'm ashamed to say that made me laugh.

ngl, the idea of disney creating a 'kill the honeybees' ride that is just... releasing honeybees & then having guests kill them with flyswatters is one of the funniest things your dream-mind has come up with so far.

i said this before reading about the wooden food & the fairy world extras being forced to eat it. 'all fairy worlds are made of wood, obviously' is the kind of slightly beautiful, slightly ridiculous dream-logic I sometimes experience in my dreams, but the people having to eat the wood is just deeply amusing.

arsonist man is very creepy, sounds like a character from some sort of ongoing 'horror weirdo of the week' tv show.

(sorry for the lowercase, sometimes i cannot switch out of twitter/tumblr lowercase brain)

because apparently Tumblr somehow outlasted the apocalypse.

That... that seems plausible actually. It is the cockroach of social media.

but I lingered because one of the other guests happened to observe aloud that the lecturer had Final Fantasy tea towels in her bag, and I hoped she might be planning to hand them out at the end.

This seems very in-character

I think you've invented a new art form.

Also dreamt that this theme park was in fact a world created by fairies and designed to keep us trapped in there?

Okay that's a solid premise for a novel.

This one feels like satire

i always love hearing about your dreams, and very glad you survived them! also super interesting that you were able to continue a few dreams :o! i'm curious if there's any scientific reasoning behind that or u just rolled lucky on the dream channels
