Why Don't You Want Tama To Achieve Her Dream?
Tem and I have been replaying AI: nirvanA Initiative. This entry starts out just trying to discuss the game and rapidly descends into a hideous conversational nightmare. I'm very sorry.
I hate Lien and Kizuna's romance even more than I remember, and I remember really hating it. Lien sees Kizuna in a restaurant, decides he's in love with her without knowing anything about her, and asks her to marry him. She says no. He stalks her and hassles her, despite being repeatedly turned down, until she eventually gives in and agrees to date him. The game somehow expects us to root for their relationship and think they're cute??
Outrageous that Ryuki gets tied up by the killer, and yet we don't get to see him tied up. This is such a horny game! How could it miss this opportunity?
Tama: It's my dream to do it on a sofa.
Riona: That seems like a very achievable dream.
Tem: Well, not if you're an eyeball.
And now the hideous conversational nightmare begins. (For anyone who has not played this game and wants context: Tama is Ryuki's artificially intelligent and extremely horny synthetic eyeball. You may feel you need more context than this. You're not getting it.)
A couple of scenes after 'it's my dream to do it on a sofa', Tama alluded to owning a dildo.
Riona: If our eyeball has a dildo, that means we can have sex with her on a sofa.
Tem: No. I don't think she does have a dildo.
Riona: Then why did she just say she did?
Tem: She's joking! She's an eyeball! There's nowhere you can penetrate it!
Riona: Not with that attitude.
Tem: Not with any attitude! She doesn't have a physical body!
Riona: She has a little body when she's not in our eye socket.
Tem: That's not a physical body; it's a projection. It's see-through.
Riona: I don't think it's a projection. Tama can only project things into our vision when we're seeing them through her. I think she has a physical body, and it's see-through because it's sort of gel-like.
Tem: It isn't!
Riona: I think it's made of a gel-like substance, and I think you can fuck it.
Tem: Stop trying to fuck the eyeball, Riona.
I brought Rei into the debate on whether Ryuki could have sex with his own eyeball. We discussed non-penetrative sex and whether Tama might be the one penetrating Ryuki, which, come to think of it, would make sense! She's implied that she owns a dildo; we know she's in the habit of tying him up, and that they both enjoy that; I wouldn't be surprised if she pegs him.
Tem conceded that it's possible to make Tama's sofa sex dreams come true, but continued to maintain that Ryuki could not penetrate Tama without damaging her. Rei, in response, pointed out that you can have an injection in your eyeball, much to Tem's outrage.
Tem: When you get an injection, do you think you're having sex? Are you moaning 'ooh, yeah, penetrate me, baby'? Is this what you're like in the doctor's office? Is that why they've asked you not to come back?
Rei: They've just asked me not to come. There's a difference.
I suppose Tama's also capable of having sofa sex in someone else's dream. But, slightly tragically, not with Ryuki, or at least not with the actual living Ryuki (as opposed to someone else's dream of Ryuki); Ryuki doesn't have a physical presence when they enter people's dreams together.
Maybe Tama can be present in Ryuki's dreams when he's sleeping, though? I don't think it ever comes up.
Anyway! Regardless of the mechanics, Ryuki is definitely in a relationship with his own eyeball, and it's... weirdly cute sometimes?

This is how I'm picturing you and Tem from now on.

I laughed out loud.
I showed this to Rei, and they were very pleased! The following exchange ensued:
Rei: Interestingly, I did actually have a needle experience today.
Riona: Was it hot?
Rei: No. No, no, no. No. But my blood pressure looked good, so that was pleasing.
Ginger: Hot.
Rei: Not in a sexual way! For fuck's sake.

Statistically there have to be people who feel like that about the injections but I hope they have the self-control not to get banned.

Okay so I don't know canon, but IRL eye prosthesis are not globe-shaped but generally a combination of a surgically installed orbital implant, a little orb installed within the tissues which move the eye, which allows those tissues to move the little orb; and an ocular prostheses, cup-shaped false eye that sits over/around the implant, the combination of which allows some degree of natural movement, aka enabling the false eye to "look" around, eye muscles moving implant which moves the prosthetic. So in some way, right, a modern ocular prostheses is already mated to, penetrated by, the body it's inserted into, via the assistance of another device; and the prosthesis is also doing some fucking on account of the insertion & moving within the body!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enucleation_of_the_eye#Orbital_implants_and_ocular_prostheses has a non-graphic explanation of how the two halves work & how/where they're installed.
Obviously a speculative eyeball implant would by no means work this way. I dunno from canon if the eye provides HUD/vision/is otherwise linked to the host, like, can he also see through it? Does she have to ask him to look over there, is he in control of eye movement? Does she just get ridealong vision with a projected HUD and/or the ability to give commentary/advice? Is she totally independent and he only has partial vision? Convo log implies he can use the eye but she can project over his vision, yeah? Depending on canon, maybe it's a standalone unit that's installed like a modern ocular prosthetic, maybe the implant links to the prosthesis on contact when inserted. If so, every time he moves his eye muscles he could functionally be moving inside of her, he might even be able to direct some of her vision, position, movement... Alternately the whole unit is "wired" in, with a cybernetic optic nerve, in which case I have fewer suggestions for the eye on the receiving end, but obviously she's always doing some penetrating. These sensations may be normalized by being daily nature for both of them, but, hey, nothing a little intentionality can't fix.

In canon, Tama appears to be a sphere with an optic nerve attached. Whenever she leaves Ryuki's eye to wander around on her own, she manifests a little see-through body (you can see the nerve between her tits in the image below (the eyeball has tits)).
Ryuki can see through her, both when she's in his eye socket and, curiously, when she's elsewhere and the optic nerve is not physically connected to him in any way; if she stands in front of him and looks at him, he can see himself. (And you're right; she can project over his vision.) When she's in his eye socket, he's generally in control of eye movement, but she can also move independently if necessary and can report things that happened while he was unconscious.

I love when digging into canon raises more questions that it ever answers. The concept art here I feel like demarcates a little more clearly eyeball-within-humanoid shape (text auto translates as "Tama (Mascot) / (Like a bra, resembling the palm of Aiba's hand)" btw, no insights here) & I feel is totally backed up by Aiba's hamster form being an eyeball + optic nerve suspended in it, so going out on a limb I'd say:
The eyeball + nerve "is" Tama and the humanoid form is a gel that protects/projects that body when not in a host body, and it 100% follows slime girl logic, called "whatever suits the desired self-presentation or way of interacting with the world, which means the slime can absolutely be penetrated." If the casing gel/avatar can be a hamster or a boob lady depending on the individual, then the boob lady can have penetrative sex. Maybe just with a very tiny dildo. Logic isn't necessary.
If anything, what it makes me wonder is where the suspension gel goes when not in use. (Host carries it around for when the eye wants to come out? Love the image of someone pulling a tupperware container out of their shoulder bag, popping the lid, and their eyeball doing a highdive into the goo.)

Although, arguably, what is the seeing the visible light spectrum if not penetration of the eyeball? The pupil even dilates and contracts! Watching porn or someone else's masturbation when you're literally an/their eye is probably very much sex.

"in Nature, he described the way the solitary walker becomes a 'transparent eyeball', pervaded by the landscape it perceived."
And then later in the article: "The way an impersonal mind relates to other people was an even thornier problem than its relation to nature. Can a transparent eyeball have lovers, or even friends?"
So apparently Emerson and/or the author of this article also want to discuss fucking the eyeball, that's all I'm saying. I will never write this crossover, but I want it to exist.
