You Know The Furies Made Orestes Hallucinate His Way Through Silent Hill.

I am supposed to be reading the 1799 Prelude and one of its later (and much, much longer) revisions this week. I have been neglecting this somewhat, because dude, three essays, The Prelude can wait (NO, OBVIOUSLY UPDATING MY LIVEJOURNAL CANNOT, ahahaha oh dear I'm such a bad student), but I found this part at the beginning of the 1799 version and felt compelled to share it with you:

Sometimes strong desire
Resistless overpowered me, and the bird
Which was the captive of another's toils
Became my prey; and when the deed was done
I heard among the solitary hills
Low breathings coming after me, and sounds
Of undistinguishable motion, steps
Almost as silent as the turf they trod.

WORDSWORTH IN SILENT HILL, YOU GUYS. I shouldn't be allowed near, well, anything. Is there anything at all in my life that Silent Hill hasn't crept into somehow?

[Lantern] It is possible as well that both find a common expression of guilt and of fear. The animal part of humanity still fears teeth and breath in the dark, that which is concealed, that which whiches not to be seen.

[identity profile] geekgirlofdoom.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never even played Silent Hill, and these posts are still always the highlight of my day. Never stop with the cracky crossovers. Ever. ♥

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, English Literature/Silent Hill is one thing, but if you write Geoffrey Chaucer in Silent Hill, I will come to your university and bone your dog. Don't make me do that, because Chaucer is far too awesome to be thrown into Silent Hill.

Do it with the pretentious poets instead, they'd probably like that sort of thing.

[identity profile] amy-wolf.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be many kinds of awesome.

Is there anything that doesn't cross well with Silent Hill?

[identity profile] fallingscribble.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, nothing cannot be crossed over with Silent Hill, is what I learn from livejournal. In fact, nothing cannot be crossed over really well with Silent Hill o_o

But seriously that would be awesome.

[identity profile] amy-wolf.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Silent Hill/Teletubbies?

[identity profile] fallingscribble.livejournal.com 2007-11-10 07:37 am (UTC)(link)
Has nobody done that? I am so sure somebody's done that. Teletubbies belong in SH!

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2007-11-09 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
OH RIGHT BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY THE WIFE OF BATH HAS SECRETLY KILLED ALL HER HUSBANDS.

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, William Wordsworth in Silent Hill could angst about plagiarising his sister's diary in his poetry. TRUE ACADEMIC FACT!

[identity profile] proleptic-fancy.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I read that as "The Furries Made Orestes Hallucinate His Way Through Silent Hill." My brain just imploded.

English Lit/Silent Hill may be the best thing ever, though.

[identity profile] amy-wolf.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I like the Orestes one. But not as much as the 'Richard Hammond loses Oliver, has a breakdown, and ends up in Silent Hill, being followed by the Pyramid Head Volvo' one. Because that's the best fic idea ever.

[identity profile] amy-wolf.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, when did you send Richard into Silent Hill.

And the premise makes me want to cry, too. But the story would be so brilliant!

[identity profile] amy-wolf.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I can hold out! Must resist temptation! Even though I've obviously been doing a crappy job what with all the comment-fic and suchlike.

*heavy breathing* Join us, come to the dark side...

[identity profile] amy-wolf.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I NEED TO SETTLE MY ETHICS ON RPF, FIRST!

Or face an irresistible temptation like two Richard Hammond goes to Silent Hill fic. That is if one featured poor dead Oliver. That might crack me.

[identity profile] amy-wolf.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Look, if I keep having ethical wibbles about this, and go join Topgearslash, then I'm likely to annoy people and make a jackass out of myself. So, unless I sort out the ethics, I shouldn't join, and should try to avoid cheating with "It's just comment-fic." On account of that leads to more guilt, behaving in a way I'm not sure of my own ethics on, and me being annoying at others.

[identity profile] amy-wolf.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd probably feel a bit guilty, but I read all your stuff, love it to pieces, and feel a bit guilty anyways, so no difference there.

Lj claims they gave me an lj email address, but I have no idea how it works. Do those work?

I still think you could do a viable Top Gear/Silent Hill crossover in which their tendency to destroy things would ironically save them by letting them break Silent Hill and escape. Mostly because I saw the polar special, and saw that you can put James and Jeremy in a car in an intensely dangerous environment with a gun without anyone being killed. And it would be hilarious and angst-free.

[identity profile] amy-wolf.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Aah! Spambots! Will do!

I'm the strange person sending you a rambly email about how I'm not named Amy.

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2007-11-09 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
I thought the impossible temptation would be fic with two Richard Hammonds.

[identity profile] amy-wolf.livejournal.com 2007-11-09 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Er, I gave in and did that one already. So it's out of my system.

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2007-11-09 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
But you did him as two lesbians! And it wasn't even porny!

[identity profile] amy-wolf.livejournal.com 2007-11-09 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
He makes good lesbians, and I don't like writing porn!

[identity profile] amy-wolf.livejournal.com 2007-11-09 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
He does, though. In the sense of he'd be good lesbians, not in the sense of him having a lesbian factory.

I have no idea what James May would be like as two women, for some reason. And I find the mental picture of even one female Jeremy Clarkson somewhat alarming (and gigantic; my brain refuses to shorten her); two would have me diving for a blast-shield.

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2007-11-09 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't like writing porn!"

I saw a comment on [livejournal.com profile] nostalgia_lj's LJ that says you do!

[identity profile] amy-wolf.livejournal.com 2007-11-09 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't write that for fun; I wrote it out of spite.

Besides, it wasn't porn. It was a description of a woman's head with a brief and discreet mention of her chest. No porn-associated body parts were named, no other people were mentioned, and no sexual acts were specified.

[identity profile] extreme-queen.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe you do have a slight obsession with Silent Hill, but dammit! that works so well.

[identity profile] cryforthemoon.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it could happen - daffodils are yellow, zombies can be. :)

[identity profile] amy-wolf.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"I WANDER'D lonely as a cloud
That floats on high twixt and sea,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden zombies;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Staggering and moaning in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine"

[identity profile] amy-wolf.livejournal.com 2007-11-08 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Master of poetry zombification, that's me.

[identity profile] cryforthemoon.livejournal.com 2007-11-09 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
YES :D

This is only very slightly relevant, but it does bring the lolz.
