rionaleonhart: final fantasy x-2: the sun is rising, yuna looks to the future. (you have got to be kidding)
Riona ([personal profile] rionaleonhart) wrote2008-03-23 05:50 pm

I'm No Ordinary Girl...

HERE IS A CONFESSION: I love terrible television. Love it. And I don't just mean Torchwood levels of terrible; I mean that my entire family sometimes gathers around the television to watch an episode of H2O: Just Add Water, a horrendously-acted Australian soap opera about teenage mermaids. I mean that, on some deek (...I think that was originally going to say 'deep, dark', but my Incredible Typo Ability appears to have invented a new word that covers both) level, I sort of 'ship Drake/Josh.

Because I am sure that many of you are secretly fans of the appallingly bad, two things. Firstly: you know you have television/films/books/music/fanfiction you're ashamed to admit to liking. Confess! You'll feel better!

Secondly: here is a link to a clip from Shark Attack 3: Megalodon. It is one of the greatest things that I have ever seen.

Your definition of 'great' may vary.

I love Disney Channel's original programming. Witches of Waverly Place? Phil of the Future? I am all over that shit.

Also, I totally 'ship Drake and Josh.

eta; That clip from Shark Attack 3: Megalodon?

AMAZING.

Okay, there is this TV show called Vampire High. It's about vampires. In their secret, vampire high-school. I think it's in the basement of an actual high-school or something? It was set up for them by their kindly headmaster. Half the time, I'm never quite sure what's going on, but they're all incredibly attractive and American and sometimes I laugh until I cry.

[identity profile] kelly96.livejournal.com 2008-03-23 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
The clip of Drake and Josh kissing made me far more gleeful than I ever thought it could.

And I agree with [livejournal.com profile] mekosuchinae, Phil of the Future is amazing. As are Teen Angel and Lizzie McGuire.

[identity profile] mad-lemming-89.livejournal.com 2008-03-23 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Firstly, Drake/Josh is an OTP. Because it just is.

Secondly, that clip? HILARIOUS! XD It's so bad it's good.

Hmmmm... stuff I'm ashamed to admit to liking? Well, I can't think of anything right now, but I'm sure I have some. XD Or, it might just be that I have no shame in admitting it! I AM A TAKE THAT FAN AND PROUD.

One of my favourite books ever is about an apprentice wizard in the Middle Ages who accidentally travels seven centuries forward in time and ends up living with a tomboy called Sam until he can find a way back home. BUT THIS BOOK IS GENUINELY AMAZING AND NOT IN ANY WAY SHIT. I AM NOT ASHAMED TO ADMIT I LOVE IT. And the same author wrote The Raging Quiet, which is a fucking amazing book too, so, PROOF OF AWESOME.

A thing I am actually ashamed to admit: I have a Celine Dion album and I still listen to it sometimes.

I LOVE 80s Cheesy Pop. I love Erasure, because they're incredibly cheerful, and I have plenty of other cheest 80s songs and I love them.

ALSO OLD HORROR MOVIES WITH DODGY SPECIAL EFFECTS. Because models > CGI! Ihave gone 'awwww!' over models of spaceships.

And I have slightly disappointed that the Megalodon clip didn't have John Barrowman!

YOU ARE NOT ALONE. I watch terrible television just for the lolfactor. I listen to rap music for the sole purpose of laughing at the lyrics. Last night I willingly watched almost half of the righteously bad movie The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl simply because it was awful beyond belief. And I still was coherent enough to tell my sister (who watched with me) "Hm, I can see that Sharkboy has potential. We should look him up, just to see if I'm right."

I was right.

I AM A FAN OF THE POWER RANGERS, HAVE BEEN SINCE I STARTED WITH THE VERY FIRST SHOW, AND I AM NOT ASHAMED. But oh man have they gotten bad. There is so much possibility! And yes, I do make pairings. And I have thoroughly corrupted my sister too.

Okay, and, um, one of my favorite books in the world is a trashy teen romance about a young woman named Mel who a) lives in a tenement on her own after her crazy mother is hospitalized for being crazy, b) is in love with her gorgeous yet skeevy art teacher (he has blond curls and tan skin and a predilection for hot young girls!), and c) winds up in a romantic and sexual relationship with an up and coming rock star who has secretly pined for her for at least a year. I've read it so many times I can no longer feel the shame I once knew.

[identity profile] justspaz.livejournal.com 2008-03-23 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Those Twilight books every teen girl and then some fangasm over are very addictive and cheesy and I love them.

Also, I love the second Legally Blonde a great deal.

I have a strange love of lame horror flicks. You know, like Shark Attack 3: Megalodon appears to be. Horrible CG, with giant crocodiles, or sea monsters, or swarms of man-eating locusts (and only the people who eat healthy, organic foods!!! are safe, because of course the swarms are really eating the pesticides people have ingested by eating EVIL non-organic foods!!11!Q ) (no, really, I saw one like that once)... The Sci-Fi channel has a lot of them. They are so hilarious.

Um. And the original 80s Transformers cartoon. Because... because of lots of things. Kremzeek (http://transformers.wikia.com/wiki/Kremzeek%21) and giant purple griffins (http://transformers.wikia.com/wiki/Giant_Purple_Griffin) and Middle East countries called "Carbombya" mostly. I love Transformers, but sometimes G1 absolutely mortifies me with its ridiculousness. I am embarrassed on behalf of the animators and writers.

Riona, you have a bad effect on me.

I have a secret weakness for Snape/Hermione fics. Not even the good, plotty, sensible ones, but the ones where just-out-of-schoool!Hermione realises Snape's hair isn't greasy it's just [insert crappy excuse here] and his snarkiness is just waiting for the right woman. And Snape teaches Hermione not to be such a snotty little knowitall cow and they live happily ever after.

I don't ndulge this habit much anymore, actually, because as with all HP fic, I know where to find the good stuff if I want a hit, but there is just SO MUCH really, really, really bad stuff that I can't bear to look at so I can't wade thorugh it for my just-bad-enough fix.

Yea, that show.

I also love the movie The Brothers Grimm and it seems like everyone else on the planet hates it!

I am completely unashamed of my love for the American Yu-Gi-Oh dub. It's just so over-the-top ridiculous! Also, they cut all the violence and boobs, but left in all the slashy subtext for great justice.

Honestly, I'm much more ashamed of the playcount on the two Hanson albums I rarely admit to owning.

[identity profile] lovestories.livejournal.com 2008-03-23 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, Disney Channel, how I love thee. Let's see, I secretly love: Hannah Montana (Miley Cyrus is FREAKING AWESOME AND I DO NOT CARE WHAT ANYONE ELSE SAYS), The Suite Life of Zach and Cody (♥ x 10000), HSM (and to a lesser degree, HSM 2), Wendy Wu: Teenage Warrior (IDEK if that's the title, but it goes something like that anyway, IT'S THE ONE WITH BRENDA SONG IN IT?).

There's also The Saddle Club which is basically a show about a bunch of girls and their horses (and the girls go from like 12 to 16 in two years which is both confusing and hilarious) and I can never figure out when it's on, but apparently there are marathons on Discovery Kids that I sometimes stumble upon. It's cheesy and v. v. predictable, BUT SO MUCH FUN. Also on Discovery Kids is this show called Flight 29 Down, and it's basically the kids version of Lost. The acting is passable and it has Chad from HSM in it, and I kinda-sorta like the plot so I guess this is not as embarrasing as the other stuff I watch? MAYBE?

Then there's Avatar: The Last Airbender which I AM NOT ASHAMED ABOUT IN THE LEAST because it's actually an awesome show and not enough people watch it just because it's on Nicktoons. And then I'm ridiculously addicted to the Twilight series, which is about a girl and her vampire boyfriend and also her werewolf best frien who she may or may not be in love with. It's ridiculously cheesy, Bella is a total Mary-Sue, and it's like terrible epic fanfic come to life, but it's also AWESOME.

Amazingly, I am not ashamed of my taste in music, probably because I am not very aware of music trends or whatever. Though I have Celine Dion, Hilary Duff ('Fly' is the most addictive song EVAR), Lindsay Lohan (I actually enjoyed parts of her first CD), and Hannah Montana songs on my iPod so I'm pretty sure I've already broken a few music tabboos.

Oh, and then there's fanfic. I love almost every fanfic cliche known to man and my personal fave is HIGHSCHOOL AU! ♥♥♥ I also love "journal" fic, and I will wade through whatever dumb drivel there is to find fic about the Black sisters from HP because Bellatrix Black Lestrange is my one trune HP fandom love.

...I can't believe I just wrote 5 paragraphs of fandom stuff I'm ashamed of.

[identity profile] hold-onhope.livejournal.com 2008-03-23 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
The Saddle Club! It's so bad! My friends and I make fun of it all the time, because of course we've all seen the whole thing, and it is pure gold.

[identity profile] hold-onhope.livejournal.com 2008-03-23 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm.

Titanic. I was in middle school - probably grade 6 or 7 - when it came out and I SWORE I would never watch it because it was stupid, but really it was just because I rejected anything 'popular'. (Or should I say resented?)

ANYWAY sad life story over! I watched it finally a few years ago and I completely fell for it. ALLLLLLLL OF IT.

And I'm sad to say Twilight. I was so much in love with Edward the books before I dove intot he fandom. And before it got to be such a HUGE fandom. And now I'm practically ashamed to be a fan, because apparently Bella is a Mary-Sue and Edward is a Gary-Stu and the writing is terrible and I'm stupid for liking it. UGH PISSES ME OFF.

Ahem.

[identity profile] the-funmonkey.livejournal.com 2008-03-23 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
That clip was beautiful. Thank you so much for bringing it to my attention.

I love Rocky Balboa. Screw it, I love all the Rocky films (except possibly the fifth one). I keep trying to explain to people how amazing they are and no-one believes me D:

[identity profile] johnnypurple.livejournal.com 2008-03-24 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
um... you?! (http://i31.tinypic.com/xe2xpd.jpg)

so, i'm trying to think of things that i'm ashamed of liking, but it seems that i feel no shame. i like Medium - which people tell me is pretty trashy, but i find Supernatural more trashy and with less Patricia Arquette (though maybe the Impala makes up for that). i occasionally enjoy watching a lone episode of NCIS - mainly because i fancy the two lead(?) women on the show (the geeky girl and the jewish girl), but that, also, is no secret.

Oh yes, I also enjoy reading Alain De Botton and when I've seen his shows, I've enjoyed them too. And I probably wouldn't admit that around friends who take theory and philosophy seriously - because De Botton is seen as easy-to-read trash for the masses. Not proper theory.

Oh yes, also Yu-Gi-Oh. I will say no more, but do not take my silence for shame... *blushes*
;-)

I spend stretches getting worryingly into utterly forgettable genre shows (Seven Days, The Invisible Man, Forever Knight, Jake 2.0), and then completely forgetting about them years later, except for an odd few like Farscape and Doctor Who which I spend ages being far too into.

I also once owned a massive and disturbing collection of Target novelizations of old Doctor Who episodes.

On a TGS-related question, I'm going to be needing "judges" of sort for an upcoming fic. As soon as I finish the car-transformation one, I'll be doing the Big Gay Wine and Cars Challenge, which is Jeremy and Richard v. James and Oz on wine-related challenges (like wine selection and drinking), car-related challenges (like car knowledge and driving), and gayness. I'm asking you because I'm trying to pick people who like James/Oz and Jeremy/Richard at least somewhat, and wouldn't try to break them up in favor of Jeremy/James, James/Richard, or Jeremy/James/Richard.

Your duties would be to write an extremely short introduction; funny and full of outrageous lies for preference, read the chapters, and write up a little "Judge's decision" thing. This would mean a paragraph or two every alternate chapter.

Do you accept?

[identity profile] thebaconfat.livejournal.com 2008-03-24 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
That Shark Attack clip is quite possibly the greatest thing I have ever seen. I must rent this AT ONCE.

Also, speaking of gratuitous Silent Hill crossovers, someone crossed over Silent Hill and The Mighty Boosh!

Er, it's a bit depressing. And makes Noel Fielding sound like more of a jerk than he'd probably be (it's partially RPS).

I upset a lot of people when I tell them I like Drawn Together. I love Teen Titans and Kim Possible and Artemis Fowl, but that is nothing to be ashamed of. =D And Ed, Edd, 'n' Eddy is my LONG-TIME LOVE. We are in a committed relationship. Nobody understands us, but we don't care.

There must be something I am embarrassed to admit I like, but I cannot think of it offhand. I flaunt my bad taste more than I should, really.

oh my god, Shark Attack 3. I have been thinking about getting my hands on that for ages--because of our beloved Captain Jack, of course--and I knew it was bad, but. But that was AMAZING. I really must get it now. That is superb. (but needz moar John Barrowman!)
