rionaleonhart: final fantasy x-2: the sun is rising, yuna looks to the future. (don't cross me)
Riona ([personal profile] rionaleonhart) wrote2008-09-10 05:21 pm

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA (THIS DOES NOT REFER TO THE JOKER)

Okay, when was the last time you played Final Fantasy X? Because I can pretty much guarantee you it wasn't recently enough. THIS GAME IS AMAZING. WHY HAVEN'T I PLAYED IT IN SO LONG? BUGGER I JUST WENT THE WRONG WAY ON YUNA'S SPHERE GRID AND HAD TO RELOAD MY LAST SAVE. BUT STILL. AMAZING.

I want to train Yuna up to the point at which she can beat enemies senseless with her staff. That is my goal for this playthrough.

Notes!

- I sent Gatta to his death in Operation Mi'ihen and felt completely horrible about it. It would have been fine had I innocently chosen the options not knowing what would result, but instead I was being evil and calculating and deliberately told Gatta to go to the front lines because I prefer Luzzu and I find Luzzu's reaction to Gatta's death more touching than Gatta's reaction to Luzzu's. I'M SORRY, GUYS. Maybe I'll write some slashfic to make it up to you. But probably not. (Seriously. Luzzu/Gatta. Tell me I'm not the only one who sees it.)

- Yuna is wonderful! I don't know why I didn't realise how amazing she was before. She's so brave and determinedly cheerful in the face of everything. Possibly my favourite Final Fantasy female lead?

- My thoughts about Tidus seem to have settled down at last. Back when the game first came out, my thirteen-year-old self (I can't believe it came out so long ago!) had a gigantic silly crush on him, something my twenty-year-old self cannot really comprehend. After that, I went through a period of hating him, and now I feel I can embrace him as the immature, arrogant, tactless dork with a heart of gold that he is. He always means well! He's just, you know, a bit thick!

- Blitzball is stupid. I'm not sure any Final Fantasy minigame is ever going to beat Triple Triad. No, hang on, I've just remembered the ridiculous amount of time I spent playing Chocobo Hot and Cold in IX. Still. YOU'VE GOT A LONG WAY TO GO, BLITZBALL. (WHY YES I DID FAIL THE FIRST TIME I PLAYED THE GAME AGAINST THE LUCA GOERS AND DECIDE TO RELOAD AND TRY AGAIN HAVING FORGOTTEN ABOUT THE MILES OF CUTSCENES BEFORE THE GAME BEGAN, WHY DO YOU ASK?)

- Man, Final Fantasy X, you couldn't have lent a couple of cutscenes to the later parts of Final Fantasy XII? You've got almost eleven hours of cutscenes! XII has a mere six! A more even distribution would probably have made everyone happier! (I've got a fairly high tolerance for cutscenes, because I am, after all, a Final Fantasy fan, but eleven hours seriously that is not normal.)

- I think the battle system may be my favourite of any Final Fantasy. BRING BACK TURNS, THAT'S WHAT I SAY. TURNS AND CHARACTERS PARTICULARLY SUITED TO DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF BATTLE AND SARCASTIC WOMEN WHO ATTACK BY SETTING SOFT TOYS UPON THE OPPONENT.

- Auron is still and will never not be awesome.

- Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are living together. This has nothing to do with Final Fantasy X and I posted about it yesterday, but I'm saying it again because every time I type it I am left with a gigantic silly grin and a significantly brighter day. I don't even know why! I'm not a tinhatter! It just makes me happy that the chemistry onscreen exists in real life as well. WHY ARE THEY SO ADORABLE?

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, is that the one with the UNEXPECTED TIME TRAVEL and some ship and that weird underwater scene?

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I've played final fantasy VIII, and final fantasy XII involves sky pirates, and I remember you trying to sell final fantasy X to me through youtube clips, which didn't really work, so it was a one in three shot, really.

I can only assume there's also a plot in there somewhere, as far as Final Fantasy games have a plot at all.

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Change that to a plot that makes sense. It started out as OH HI DEFEAT THIS SORCERESS PLZ and then you went to the PAST randomly and the Sorceress was actually good and took care of you when you were little and then it turns that ACTUALLY you need to defeat a future sorceress or else it's the end of the world. There's such a thing as over-complicating things :/

Still, at least final fantasy can't be interpreted in a gazillion different ways like Silent Hill, which is something.

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I just... less time travel, maybe? Please?

Then again, I've played RPGs from the US where there was time travel. But at least that time travel was announced beforehand, which was very nice of them. Mind you, the advantage of Final Fantasy is that there was no fed-exing AT ALL.

Fed-exing is when character A says 'hey, adventurers, would you care to go to this random other town to fetch me an important object?' and then you say sure and it takes ages and then at the next town you have to do it again. Courier services in RPGs could do very good business.

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I DON'T EVEN WANT TO KNOW.

At least tell me the characters in X are less useless than in VIII to compensate for something more ridiculous than not-time travel.

SPEAKING OF NOT-TIME TRAVEL: Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd century (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xAUYZyD108), in which Sherlock gets turned back to life to catch that cunning Dr. Moriarty who has somehow ended up in the 22nd century.

[identity profile] pornontoast.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are living together.

I'm not even into SPN and I find it cute! I think it's because everyone's so used to co-stars totally hating each other and sniping at EVERY OPPORTUNITY that it's really pretty adorable when they.. don't.

And also - Blitzball is crap. I spent 5 minutes attempting it just for Wakka's celestial weapon and just.. agghhhhhh :'(

[identity profile] tronella.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I hate all FF minigames, but especially Blitzball. Why did they make me play it ;_;

Also, Luzzu/Gatta is the awesomest.

[identity profile] tronella.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I did not... mainly because I was awful at it, admittedly. But at least you weren't forced to play it, unlike Tetra Master, which was the death of me many times!

[identity profile] tronella.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, Chocobo Hot and Cold, I'd forgotten that one! I played that forever!

[identity profile] th-esaurus.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I NEVER FINISHED FFX BECAUSE I DIDN'T LIKE IT, THE END.

[identity profile] thrennion.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Off topic, but your post on games that I've never played made me want to get Spore even more. Why? In the month where I should be focusing on Uni Preparation, why do you bring out a game that I might actually like, is Mac-compatible and is endorsed by Robin Williams? D:

I should play Final Fantasy X, shouldn't I?

[identity profile] thrennion.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I AM DEPRIVED, I DO NOT HAVE A PS2/3.

But on the subject of Spore, this YouTube video is an excellent introduction to its wonders.

Observe and lol.

AURON!

AURON IS THE LOVE OF MY LIFE!!

(As is Vincent. Uh, they're both metaphorically or actually DEAD. What does that say about me?)

[identity profile] dorcas-gustine.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Tell me about it. I was so excited because I heard there were the same voice actors or Jecht and Auron in X-2 so I hoped we could see more of them, but then discovered that they had nothing to do with J&A.

Jecht&Auron are, like, the doomed!couple cliché. And Braska, too. The doomed!threesome cliché... er, I'm sure something like that must exist.

Ahh, I can respond to this!

I'm very fond of Luzzu also, though I do feel sort of bad for Gatta. I mean... yeah, I also send him to his death, but I feel sad doing so. Sorry Gatta. Sorry.

Yuna... hold on, I saved a really lovely [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecret about Yuna, lemme go upload it... there we go. I used to be pretty pathetic regarding female characters back in the day, so this secret both impressed and shamed me slightly. Ah, younger self. Glad I'm past that now, hahah.

Final Fantasy XII was hopeless regarding cutscenes, it infuriates me. I can't enjoy the XII cast anywhere as much as the cast of X, just because of the lack of scenes and development. But I think a lot of that is just me, alas.

Say hi to Jecht for me? Jecht is my favourite hopeless fath-- oh wait no, Doctor Cid! Drat, now I can't decide which of those two is my favourite hopeless father. Hmm....

[identity profile] plotbunnydoom.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I, I've NEVER PLAYED IT.

For shame!

[identity profile] amy-wolf.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
Me neither. And I have no money, so I can't buy it.

I'm just glad that the plot is complicated enough that I can't do another Top Gear/Games I've Never Played crossover.

[identity profile] twilit-wanderer.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
OH MAN I LOVE FFX SO MUCH! ♥ But I didn't know you could win that first game the first time through, so my replay is STILL STUCK THERE WITH ME TRYING TO BEAT THEM. AHDSJKSD Ugh. And that's coming from someone who actually enjoys Blitzball! (Though not as much as I enjoy Triple Triad. oh god. triple triad. never leave me.) Really, if you can build a good team, Blitzball is both easy and, in my opinion, amazingly entertaining. Though possibly this is just the bitter side that enjoys beating the Luca Goers with scores along the lines of, I dunno, 50 to 0 or something, speaking...

BUT YES ASIDE FROM BLITZBALL, I love FFX to bits. The characters and the stories and even the almost eleven hours (... really?) of cutscenes, apparently, and the battle system and and andyes. The only bit I do not like is the sequel, and my main problems with the sequel are really only that it ruined Blitzball completely and because I like the sphere grid a whole lot more than dress spheres. (And because it makes NO SENSE for an entire planet to have completely revamped how they go about doing everything in such a short amount of time. THERE I GO, TRYING TO APPLY LOGIC TO VIDEO GAMES AGAIN.)

[identity profile] twilit-wanderer.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's how I keep trying (though usually with actual success on the Jecht Shot)... except after Wakka comes back in, the computer always scores on me because, I dunno, it just always manages to. Because Keepa can't block to save his life? I like the cheating bastard explanation.

Of course, it's been over a year. Maybe it's willing to play nice now.

Yes, Paine! Paine is cool.

[identity profile] kaatsu.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
I LOVE BLITZBALL SO MUCH I AM NOT EVEN KIDDING. Brother/Tidus/Rin/Zazi Guado = sporty OT4

Wakka's celestial weapon was no problem. Lulu's, on the other hand, was thought up by Square's special Dept. of Sadism.

[identity profile] johnnypurple.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
I have never played Final Fantasy X. I have played the Buffy game on X-box and I have played a fair amount of Tetris in my time, and also Boomshine and Bubbles. Do they count? Are they pretty much hardly any different to this Final Fantasy X of which you speak? ;-)

Tinhats are not needed when it somes to Jaren and Jensen. As if they don't spend enough time together as it is!!?!?! :D Obviously, they needed to share a bed too. As Jeremy Clarkson would say, AWWWWWWW, SWEEEEEEEEEET. Their love is so epic.

[identity profile] emmarrrrr.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 08:50 am (UTC)(link)
I ALSO REALLY WANT TO MAKE YUNA AND LULU STUPIDLY STRONG
LIKE, AURON STRONG.

BECAUSE TIDUS IS DOING LIKE 2K DAMAGE AT MOST AND AURON'S PULLING OFF 9999 EVERY TIME.

and i can't get his celestial weapon because the dark magus sisters will eat me

basically? YAY AURON I LOVE HIM

[identity profile] emmarrrrr.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I left it too late, ALAS.

i should have grabbed it all like AS SOON AS I REACHED THE CALM LANDS and then backtracked aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall the way to djose. AND THEN BESAID TO GET ALL HIS OVERDRIVES TOO.

[identity profile] emmarrrrr.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 08:57 am (UTC)(link)
ALSO I SENT RIKKU ROUND AURON'S SPHERE GRID FOR LOLZ
AND THEN WAKKA'S

SO NOT ONLY IS SHE DOING SHITLOADS OF DAMAGE
BUT SHE'S ALSO NEVER MISSING

i was quite sad at how comparatively shit rikku was. she wasn't strong, or fast, or magical, AND SHE HAD SHIT EVASION

[identity profile] emmarrrrr.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
hahahaha, by the time i got her, tidus was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay faster.

[identity profile] emmarrrrr.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 09:58 am (UTC)(link)
hee!

after that, i sent rikku around auron's sphere grid.
and then wakka's. and then tidus'.

i pretty much did the same with auron and tidus. tidus was like halfway around rikku's sphere grid before i got her.

[identity profile] misskass.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, this is my favourite Final Fantasy game. It was the first one I ever got, and it took me seventy hours of gameplay before I actually made it to the end of the game, where I proceeded to have to hold in my tears because dad was watching the end with me. ;__;

And today I actually had a craving to play the game, but then my sister commandeered the PS2 for hours upon hours and played Crash of the Titans. Tomorrow I will play moar FFX.

SAD ENDING SAD ENDING SAD ENDING. I LOVE YUNA. <3

[identity profile] misskass.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 11:59 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, and I hated Blitzball because I was absolutely terrible at it, and have resigned myself to never getting Wakka's celestial weapon. And Triple Triad is my Final Fantasy minigame lover. ♥

Aaaaand I thought most of the cutscenes for FFX were pretty awesome, except for the, like, fifteen minutes of them before fighting... the tentacle headed woman. With the three forms. In Zanarkand. *thinks* Yunalesca! Because before I fought her, I'd read horror stories of getting to her last form and losing, and having to spend ages watching cutscenes, and then battle her for another forty five minutes. Luckily I beat her the first time, though, silly zombie harlot.

[identity profile] missnoface.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I re-played through Final Fantasy X a few months ago and named the main character Reinbach. It sounds a bit more epic than "Tee-duhsst" and I almost always send Gatta to his death. His costume distracts me.

Half of my playtime is wasted on Blitzball. Blame the Sublimely Magnificent Jecht Shot Mark III.

[identity profile] sazzlette.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
OH GOD FFX. James (housemate's boyfriend) told me the other day he'd bring his ps2 over so I can play with and I almost CRIED WITH GLEE at the prospect of spending the whole of autumn term playing ffx and cackling to myself in my room and working on my stupid fucking spn crossover.

AKSDSLKF JUST YES TOO ALL OF THIS POST.
