GUESS WHO IS GOING TO BE AT DERREN BROWN'S LIVE SHOW AT THE ADELPHI ON THE TWENTY-SIXTH OF JUNE?

...yes, all right, Derren Brown. BUT ALSO ME.

And also also [livejournal.com profile] sacred_sarcasm, [livejournal.com profile] reipan, [livejournal.com profile] hippyjolteon, [livejournal.com profile] sos_your_face, [livejournal.com profile] _afterism and [livejournal.com profile] cryforthemoon.

THIS IS GOING TO BE SO AWESOME, YOU GUYS. Unless Derren attacks us with needles and feeds us broken glass and throws us into a pond filled with zombies, which may slightly detract from the awesome. BUT IT'S GOING TO BE PRETTY AWESOME ANYWAY.

Now I am going to talk about Avatar!

I've been putting off watching Avatar for a while, waiting for the alarmingly obsessive phase in which I actually get angry with things for not having Derren Brown in them to pass so that I could appreciate it properly. Now that I have reached the slightly more sane stage in which, whilst I certainly would not object to Derren Brown showing up in the world of Avatar (which nation would he come from? would he introduce 'mindbending' as a new type of bending skill?), I can forgive him for not being present, I can go back to watching Derrenless things. Today, I watched 'The Painted Lady' and 'Sokka's Master'.

And, oh, I love Avatar so very much. It is so beautiful! And the characters are wonderful! And the use of bending is so creative!

(I really like the way that the humans in Team Avatar refer to Appa and Momo as their friends, rather than, say, their pets. Barriers of species are no barrier to friendship!)

'I will never turn my back on people who need me!' 'Well, you need me, and I will never turn my back on you.' KATARA AND SOKKA.

I have heard that people 'ship Katara/Sokka, which... really isn't something I can understand. Their relationship seems so healthy! My mind actually shies away from considering it, because I cannot comprehend how it would work. Are any of you Katara/Sokka fans? If so, would you like to explain it to me? (This isn't a hostile 'YOUR PAIRING IS WRONG'; I am genuinely curious. I'm not even demanding good reasons. I 'ship Sam Winchester/Toshiko Sato based purely on the fact that all the people they love die, after all.)

I'd totally be up for some wrong wrong wrong wrong Azula/Zuko, though.

Something that just occurred to me: I would really like to see Katara and Sokka travelling with the Doctor. (Has the Doctor ever travelled with a pair of siblings? Because that would be delightful.) PERHAPS AANG IS THE DOCTOR. He regenerates! Sort of! He has a love of discovery and accumulates companions! APPA IS CLEARLY THE TARDIS.

Well, you've seen the scene where she's all deshabile and hes's in her room being angry and she's being... her. What with that, and suggesting Azula/Blue Spirit at one con, I suspect the writers don't mind either.

(That said; I have not seen Sokka's Master yet. I weep.)

Has the Doctor ever travelled with a pair of siblings?
In the film version of the dalek invasion of Earth, Susan and Barbara were re-vamped as siblings. In The Twin Dilemma story, the doctor briefly had to put up with a pair of annoying but smart male twins (but then he was being even more annoying himself at that stage anyway).

I've seem the majority of the first season, so I can't really say much about that, but... Derren would totally be a Waterbender.

WHY YES WE ARE GOING TO SEE DERREN BROWN, AREN'T WE? I may be as excited about this as seeing U2 in August...

Should A Frisbee Come Our Way, I Volunteer Rei.

Oh, you'll pay for that.

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Azula/Zuko is definitely twisted enough, because Azula would waltz right over any objections he might and Zuko would give in, because that's what he does in the beginning of the series.

And, yes, Sokka is totally a ladies' man but not with his sister!

...I would love the Doctor see Appa. He would probably get a bit jealous that his TARDIS isn't a giant fluffy flying bison.

Ahh, Katara and Sokka. I'm very soft on their relationship, but really only in a familial sense. It's pretty rare that I go in for incestuous shipping anyway though - all power to the fans, but I've never understood the notion that Ed and Al are 'practically canon', you know? Hrm.

THAT SAID, I may have a guilty place in my heart for Azula/Zuko. It's her fault. :| And, in keeping with the first icon to reply to this post, I've been watching Revolutionary Girl Utena for the first time recently, and if you're not seeing the incestuous implications? You are doing it wrong. No, seriously. (It's a very good series, ftr. :D)

So yeah, incestuous pairings have a place in my utopia, but nine times out of ten I'm going to take the dynamic between related characters at face value. ilu Katara & Sokka :>

I'd totally be up for some wrong wrong wrong wrong Azula/Zuko, though.

... I hadn't considered that and now I very badly want her to do horrible teasy torture sex to him. UNF.

APPA IS CLEARLY THE TARDIS.

WRONG. YOU. SOMETHING. YOUR HEAD. WITH. IN.

Fire Nation = daleks?

AND ZUKO IS THE DALEK SUPREME.

[identity profile] derryderrydown.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm inclined to think that Derren Brown won't actually be at the live show. He'll just mindfuck the entire audience into thinking he was there and they saw the best show ever.

[identity profile] derryderrydown.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG, Derren Brown mindfucked you into forgetting to add it, and then mindfucked me into saying it!

Derren Brown is in my brain!

I'm seeing him on 7th May in Blackpool with my flat mate Susie and [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], who has said that if she catches the frisbee/monkey/hat/crystal ball, I am the one who is going up. We also may get stranded in Blackpool over night if we miss the last bus, but DERREN BROWN IS A SINGLE BUS RIDE AWAY FROM ME. I am not going to miss this.

[identity profile] bubbles-san.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
So does this lack of anger at Derren Brown for not being in things mean that you're going to start watching stuff like House and Scrubs again? Because there's one episode of Scrubs in particular, one of the most recent ones, that I really can't wait to see your reaction to. But I can't tell you the title, because even that's a spoiler and I know how you feel about those.

Anyway~! Sokka's Master. Just, yes. I had forgotten just how awesome Sokka is. And I had forgotten how much I love Iroh.

[identity profile] bubbles-san.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I JUST HAVEN'T WATCHED AVATAR IN A WHILE, OK?

*sigh* Even if you don't plan to get caught up, you need to see the episode "My Lawyer's In Love." Seriously. It should be required by law. I can't tell you why, you just do.

[identity profile] serriadh.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
IT'S DERREN BROWN IT'S DERREN BROWN
HE'S VERY KIND
HE'LL READ YOUR MIND
UNLESS YOU'RE ONE OF A GROUP OF SLASHER FANGIRLS
IN WHICH CASE HE'LL BE SCARED.

[identity profile] serriadh.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't worry, he's not actually reading your mind.

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAAA. So he says.

[identity profile] serriadh.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
He might enjoy watching our thoughts on him and David Tennant
(deleted comment)

[identity profile] serriadh.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
He's going to love my thoughts on him sticking needles in Clarkson and getting off on it. And also my theory that he's a wizard.

[identity profile] serriadh.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok, so I want you to think of the surname of someone you've got a crush on. Ok, ok. Can I just move your hair? Oh dear, that on'es fainted. NExt!

Ok, so you're thinking of someone? Shout the surname at me. SHOUT SHOUT SHOUT. But just in your head. Ok, so I'm getting a plosive at the beginning, right. Fantastic! Don't give it away. I think it's an r next, ok? Yep. And then the last letter, let's go for that... shout it at me. Oh god, it's an N isn't it. O... kay. Is it Brown? I'm quite embarrassed. Ok, next person.

We'll do first names with you. And I hope it's not Derren, eh! Hahahahahaa. Oh god. you just blinked quite a lot. And now you're blushing. Classic. Fantastic. Good to know so many fans are in tonight.

[identity profile] serriadh.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
All right, fantastic. Is there anyone in here tonight who DOESN'T fancy me? I know, I know, how could such a creature exist, but there are some. Ah, you sir? No, you're blushing too. And is that your girlfriend next to you - so sorry. You should come out, much more fun that way. So I've heard.

*g*

I want this to happen.

[identity profile] emmarrrrr.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 12:07 am (UTC)(link)

Watch 'The Puppetmaster' and then you will not only know that Derren Brown is a waterbender but you will also know what he does with said bending abilities.

Hello my daughter. I was on a planet with a ver different time zone matrix when I replied, but I'm home now.

[identity profile] vzg.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 12:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Once upon a time I was going to write a fic called "The Benders" and it was going to have a Mindbender. Sadly, he was not Derren Brown. (There was also a fenderbender [yes in spite of the fact that cars do not exist in the Avatar universe], a spoonbender, and — wait for it — a genderbender!)

[identity profile] vzg.livejournal.com 2009-03-13 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I had planned for him to just be an Earthbender who hit people with hunks of metal or something. The spoonbender was particularly useless, as he really just... bent spoons. Sometimes. He couldn't do anything more than that. (I think you DO have the power to bend unicorns!) In all honestly it was mostly an excuse to have a character who was a genderbender.
