rionaleonhart: final fantasy x-2: the sun is rising, yuna looks to the future. (I APPROVE)
YOU GUYS.

High School Musical on Stage is pretty much the worst thing I've ever seen. The voice-broadcast quality is bad! The jokes are terrible! The songs are frequently overblown to the point of being completely incoherent! The audience was absolutely appalling and insisted on clapping along out of time and singing along out of tune!

And you know what? I don't care about any of those things. I bloody loved it. Well, I spent the first half sort of cringing because my family was there, they were sitting through this rubbish because of me, what were they going to think?, and then in the second half something clicked and I realised I was really enjoying myself. I adored 'When There Was Me and You' and wept at 'Breaking Free' and grinned like a maniac through the entire final medley and look, this is love. There's no other way to explain it. It's love, and love doesn't have to make sense.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
- In the stage version, Ryan somehow manages to be both more gay and more incestuous. I am impressed!
- Ryan, at one point, flails and squeals because Troy touched him. OH, RYAN.
- There is a scene - probably the most cringeworthy in the entire thing - in which the students are passing around an invisible ball as part of a drama exercise. If I recall correctly, Zeke gives it to Sharpay. Sharpay gives it to Ryan. Ryan gives it to Chad. Chad gives it to Taylor. Taylor gives it to Gabriella. Gabriella gives it to Troy.
Only after I had recovered from my embarrassment did it occur to me to wonder about this. Zeke/Sharpay, Chad/Taylor and Gabriella/Troy are all canonical pairings, and in the Zeke-Sharpay passing it is very clear that Zeke chooses to pass it to her because of his romantic interest in her. Taylor and Gabriella are friends. Sharpay and Ryan are twins. But why does Ryan pass it to Chad? I choose to assume that this is because of their inevitable future boyfriendness. (Afterwards, in the background of other things going on, Chad looks over at Ryan and makes what appear to be 'what the hell, why pass it to me?' gestures. It is kind of adorable!)
- At one point, when Ryan was being adorable and making an attempt at apologising for Sharpay, the audience broke into spontaneous applause. This made me smile a lot. I LOVE MY LITTLE GAY RYAN.
- Jack Scott annoys me a lot. GET OUT OF MY HAPPY PLACE, JACK SCOTT. GET AWAY FROM KELSI.
- Is it wrong that I want to write many more Supernatural/High School Musical crossovers now?

Thank you so much to everyone who wished me a happy birthday! It has been truly fabulous. And, er, apologies to the unfortunate members of my family, not all of whom truly understand the pure and blazing love of which High School Musical is made.
