I worried that I was boring everyone with all these posts, but a surprising number of you, being far too sensible to get drawn into actually watching it yourself, seem to be watching Waterloo Road vicariously through my entries! I am happy to provide, because I appear to be completely addicted to this ridiculous show. Bought the second half of series five today. Couldn't stop myself.
I thought at first that perhaps the 'it came out of nowhere!' comments on Waterloo Road fora regarding Josh's sexuality meant not that the attraction hadn't been implied before (it was made incredibly obvious in the episode preceding the actual kiss) but that there was no indication at all in earlier episodes that an attraction might at some point develop. Having now watched Finn's first episode (5.11), however, I can assure you that it was love at first sight. When Finn is kicking a ball around there's a long shot of Josh watching and beginning to smile - this is the first time Josh has seen him - and then Josh pushes open-mouthed through a crowd of kids just to stand next to Finn, when he doesn't even know him. The eventual kiss was definitely not a case, as some YouTube commenters seem to believe, of someone suddenly saying 'oh, no, better fulfil the gay quota; how about that kid who doesn't like football?' in the middle of planning series six; Josh was strangely drawn to Finn from the moment he saw him.
Finn: Amy! Will you go out with me tonight?
Amy: Okay, yeah, I will.
Finn: You can come as well if you want, Siobhan. (pause) How 'bout you, Joshy-boy?
Josh: Yeah? :D
He is totally smitten.
The same episode included Dean Andrews (Ray from Life on Mars) as a vengeful parent, which is weird (I spent the character's first few appearances trying to work out where I'd seen him before, and when it hit me I couldn't get my head around it), and Rachel being Action Rachel and amazing. I love her successor, but I'll still be quite sad when I reach the end of Rachel's run. Why couldn't Rachel or Karen have been the headteacher of my secondary school? I can't believe you'd just be fictional like that, guys. You're so selfish.
To detour inevitably into the Pokémon-filled parallel universe: Amy has a Sneasel. It took me a while to work out what Pokémon to give her, but she's a scheming, vengeful, proud character, and I think Sneasel fits her rather well. Also, she's from John Foster's, and I imagine that John Foster's pupils would be more likely to have rare and later-generation Pokémon than the pupils who were attending Waterloo Road originally (Amy and Josh, John Foster's pupils, have Sneasel and Eevee; Lauren and Sam, who were attending Waterloo Road before the merger, have the much more common Spearow and Pikachu).
I am overthinking this to a ridiculous extent.
