But Why Would A Daffodil Go To Hell?
Firstly, I'd like to thank you guys for being so good about cutting spoilers! I didn't get to see the episode until today, but I still had no idea what was in it when I eventually settled down to watch it. I love my flist.
I actually went :D at the end of that episode. SAM IS LUCIFER'S VESSEL. I am sorry for grinning like an idiot when you were going 'noooooooooooo', Sam, but if we can't have Derren Brown as Lucifer that is easily the next best thing.
I generally loved that episode. PRETTY MUCH NOTHING PLOT-RELATED HAPPENED IN IT (well, prior to the final scene) AND I LOVED IT ANYWAY. Dean calls a vampire 'Twilight'! Raphael is a Teenage Mutant Ninja Angel! Castiel is charmingly confused! (I loved 'We'll tell the officer that he witnessed an angel of the Lord, and the officer will tell us where the angel is.' The thought that it might not work simply doesn't occur to him!)
I have so much more affection for Castiel after that episode. NEVER STOP BEING CLUELESS, CASTIEL. 'This is a den of iniquity!' Castiel is terrified of prostitutes! 'Look, Dean, I am trying to answer this man's question. He asked me to repeat myself, so I did. I didn't say nothing! You are mistaken!' (I didn't really like his embarrassment at never having had sex, though. I doubt virginity has much of a stigma attached amongst angels.)
I think Dean/Castiel is verging on becoming one of those pairings that is made so obvious that I, being a bit contrary, actually cannot 'ship it. There were so many points in that episode - Castiel failing to respect Dean's personal space, Dean buttoning up Castiel's shirt, Dean's insistence that he won't let Castiel die a virgin - at which I thought 'ah, they clearly threw that in for the fangirls'. I suspect Kripke is actually trying to stir up Dean/Sam versus Dean/Castiel 'shipwars, just so he can sit back and cackle.
(If we are forced to pick sides, I'm coming down on the 'Castiel is madly in love with Dean, the brothers' love is platonic, and, whilst the Sam-and-Dean relationship is far more important than the Dean-and-Castiel one (pfft, Dean, you are such a liar when you say you're happy on your own), it's the Dean-and-Castiel one that's going to become sexual if I have to choose' one. Does that count as a 'side'?)
Is there going to be weird pseudo-necrophiliac Sam/Lucifer!Jess fanfiction? I do so hope there is.
(So much has changed! Back in season two, who would have suspected that one day Dean and an angel would be trying to find God whilst Sam woke up in bed next to Lucifer?)
And, hey, the brothers' separation is going to last more than an episode! I am quite pleased by this, and I'm not sure why. I think I was just expecting it to be a one-episode gimmick, but no; this is actual plot.

(Anonymous) 2009-09-26 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)WHERE ARE YOU WATCHING THESE EPISODES I WANT TO WATCH THIS EPISODE
(He buttons up his shirt?! That is one of the things that I assumed only ever happened in fic and was oddly charmed by when it did. IT'S ON THE ACTUAL SHOW? They know just how to please the fans, don't they? You do spoil us, show.)

COMPLETLY OFF TOPIC, but are you in Brighton? I'm coming back this evening SO EXCITED OMG

I'm not back in Brighton yet! I, er, should probably start thinking about it, though, as term resumes in a week or so.

COME ON DOWN AND WE CAN PARTY BEFORE TERM STARTS WOOOOO. Or, er, sit around and watch ancient sci-fi! JUST AS GOOD.

At the time, it seemed to make a great deal of sense.

I dreamt that I was running away from giant squid (in a non-sexy manner). It was somewhat stressful.

the Sam as Lucifer's vessel thing made me go 'eeeee!' rather than 'noooo'. Though I did see that coming, possibly because I have a slight obsession with angel and demon mythology and it was kind of fitting alongside the Michael thing. but I still like that idea a lot.
um, also, hello! I don't know you and you don't know me and I feel *really* weird posting on the journal of someone I don't know, I'm nearly as bad at doing that as I am at interacting with 'real' people I don't know, but... I kind of figured it seems slightly more stalkerish to read your journal and never say anything rather than read it and then actually say something. And I've skimmed through your entries and you like Supernatural and you seem sane and not one of the weird-crazy fans that are really putting me off the Supernatural fandom. It makes me happy to know all Supernatural fans are not weird-crazy
*runs away now*

I interpreted Castiel's embarassment at being more about Dean assuming he should have sex with women when Castiel is obviously besotted with Dean
This is a wonderful theory and I shall adopt it immediately. Oh, Castiel, you and your massive crush.
I'm glad I don't come across as weird-crazy! I think the Supernatural fandom gets a terrible reputation, and one that's not entirely deserved; all the Supernatural fans I know are lovely and sane and just enjoy the show, and I think that's probably the case with the majority. But there are certainly quite frightening corners of the fandom.
It's nice to meet you!

I'm assuming that the weird-crazy fans are just the most vocal, and there really are plenty of sane fans out there but because of the outspoken weird-crazy ones it makes finding the sane ones hard. Though perhaps if I'd been watching it longer (it's only a few months since I started watching it) maybe I'd feel more comfortable wading through the crazy stuff to find the more normal fans instead of just skirting around the fringes of the fandom and getting weirded out.
Nice to meet you too :-)

If that counts as a side, I'm totally on it. Because I adore loving, devoted, care-about-each-other-so-much SamnDean, but I'm not fond of Sam/Dean (I don't have a mental headspace for It's All Okay Really Incest Happyland, and while I like the occasional "It happens and things seriously aren't okay" fic, there's very few of those, especially if you exclude the ones where incest under better circumstances cures the trauma of incest under worse ones). And I like Dean/Castiel (based more on the show than the fanfic - they tend to be alarmingly woobified in fic). So we're team "Quite fond of Sam and Dean's non-sexual relationship, and prefer Dean and Castiel to get into bed!" Woo!

(Basically Dean is some pure, innocent, wibbly victim who is made of even more pain and trauma than normal Dean, and expresses it not through stuff like denial, taking senseless risks, and drinking, but through endless weeping, talking about his feeling in a way that implies implausible amounts of self-help books, and making fragile doe-eyes at people. Castiel is the Healing Buttsex Angel who heals Dean with buttsex. He's also a staggeringly pure innocent who apparently knows nothing of the world or its ways, and makes canon Castiel seem downright worldly in comparison. At least canon Castiel knows of this thing you call sex, and doesn't wander between being vaguely puzzled by what the scary men are trying to do to him in the endless string of rape attempts, and 'instinctively' getting porny with Dean.)

But these are just my thoughts of course. :)
