What Do You Want?

In case anyone who might be interested missed it on account of my terrible timing: I posted an X-Men: First Class fic whilst Livejournal was being difficult! No common sense. It is about Raven and Erik and Charles and their relationships with each other. It is also, inevitably, about Pokémon.


Over the weekend, I stayed with mogamus_ii! She had the first two X-Men films on DVD, so, at my request, we watched them.

I went into the films hoping to see more of the fascinating relationship between Erik and Charles. By the end of X2, they could have had sex right there on the screen and I wouldn't have noticed.

I am 'shipping Rogue and Logan more than I have ever 'shipped anything in my life.

No, seriously, it twisted my insides when I realised that the films were going to go the Logan/Jean route instead. I was so oblivious to any tension between them that, close to the end of the first film, this happened:

Jean: I think she's a little taken with you.
Logan: Well, you can tell her my heart belongs to someone else.
Riona: Wait, what? NO. NO IT DOESN'T. Who?
Logan: How's the professor?
Riona: He's in love with Charles?

Not that there necessarily wasn't any tension between Logan and Jean; it's quite possible that they were constantly setting the air between them aflame and I simply didn't notice because I was so busy hoping for more Logan-Rogue interaction.

I don't know how this pairing hit me so hard and so fast! During the truck scene after Logan and Rogue's first meeting, I was fascinated by the atmosphere and the dynamic, although thoughts of pairing them up hadn't occurred to me yet. By the train scene, I was shouting 'GET MARRIED' at the screen.

And then there was that intensely awkward scene at the beginning of X2 between Logan and Rogue and Rogue's boyfriend and I was dying with how much I needed Logan and Rogue to be together. X-MEN FILMS WHY ARE LOGAN AND ROGUE NOT MAKING OUT CONSTANTLY

I MEAN, YES, ROGUE'S MUTATION WOULD KILL ANYONE SHE MADE OUT WITH, BUT OTHER THAN THAT YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE.

I'm a massive Gambit fan, but sort of take-it-or-leave-it on his relationship with Rogue. It's more that thing where I become attached to one particular character and want to pair them off with everyone in the world.

(Although I'm also deeply squeamish about anything other than incredibly tiny age differences in pairings where one of the characters is young enough that you actually have to look up the age of consent, particularly when the other character is old enough that no one can remember how old he is, so you can both yell at me for hating on your OTP. I'll stop talking now.)

*shakes fist in tiny impotent rage* HOW DARE YOU NOT LOVE THE AWESOME LOVE THAT ROGUE/GAMBIT?

On a much less capslocky note, you should watch this parody (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLoSsnZn36o) of Bad Romance. (It makes more sense in context, but it's funny enough to stand on it's on anyway. AND IT'S AWESOME. Oops I used capslock again OH WELL.)

I don't mind it or anything, I just...want to see Gambit/everyone! (And I have a weird fondness for a relatively obscure pairing of Gambit/Jacob Gavin Jr. from the comics, because Jake is a smartassed shapeshifter who had many adventures with Gambit, then he had an accident that caused the default mode for his body to reset to "attractive woman" - Jake, not Gambit - and Gambit was all "You are now very hot! I like this!", except smoother and more Cajun, and there was a kiss and it was a fun dynamic.)

The deck is precious to me because some of my favorite cards are in it- including a few rare cards that I only have because some friends gave them to me. That's why I didn't have it stored with the others, but I forgot where I put it and I thought it had gone missing.

(Also, I know for a fact that there is such a thing as liquid latex body paint, which should theoretically solve most of the complications involved with Rogue having sex, although she still couldn't kiss people.)

I appreciate your noble efforts to make their sex-having plausible even if it makes you uncomfortable! I suppose that if they did have sex they would have to go for the body paint rather than the 'well, he can come back from anything' approach, because having sex whilst feeling constantly as if you're dying probably wouldn't be that sexy. Unless you're into that sort of thing.

In any case, I think the pairing's more interesting when it's frustrating and impossible and in any case Logan is furiously repressing his attraction to Rogue. Maybe at one point Rogue's mutation is somehow temporarily deactivated, and Logan isn't strong enough to keep repressing when suddenly something between them is possible, and they have sex and fall asleep in each other's arms and WHOOPS ROGUE'S POWERS RETURN IN THE NIGHT AND LOGAN WAKES UP TO HIS LIFE-FORCE BEING SAPPED AND NEARLY DIES.

Not - not that I've been thinking about this at massive length or anything.

You're welcome. The liquid latex body paint thing has been bothering me about "Rogue can never, ever, ever have sex with people!" for years.

Rogue's powers have been temporarily deactivated many times in the comics, so you could totally do something like that, if you don't mind me not reading it.
