Trust You To Find A Jungle In The Middle Of France.
I received Uncharted 3 for Christmas! It managed to win my heart within the first hour by means of the following sure-fire methods:
- putting Nathan Drake in a suit and having him beaten up by thugs
- the Colombia flashback, oh my God my heart.
Nathan/Elena is still the only Uncharted pairing I really 'ship, but at points I found myself oddly sad that
th_esaurus was unlikely ever to write a, er, forty-year-old Victor Sullivan/fifteen-year-old Nathan Drake epic, in which they hunt treasure and commit crimes and they don't have sex but there's always the sense that they might, on account of not having played the Uncharted games; she would do it such justice, even though it would be wrong wrong wrong. I suspect I would read it and love it and then hate myself for loving it. Probably for the best that it doesn't exist. Ignore this paragraph.
I didn't like Sully at all when I first started playing the Uncharted series, but by this point I seem to have warmed to him. I suspect a large part of my attitude shift is due to the fact that he really does love Nathan. If you want me to care about a character, show me what that character cares about. Having the character assist me in firefights doesn't generally hurt, either.
I find it interesting that Sully's 'Lead on, Macduff' reference (and the subsequent 'It's "lay on, Macduff"' correction, which I appreciated because it was exactly what I was thinking) went completely over Nathan's head. Nate's no fool; he's extremely informed in the fields that interest him (history, geography, languages), but literature seems to be a bit of a blind spot. He can tell you in a moment what century a structure was built in (and whether it'll hold if he tries to climb up the outside); just don't expect him to recognise a Shakespeare quote.
The short section near the beginning where you're running around an abandoned London Underground station was rather lovely; the streets didn't seem particularly Londonish to me, nor the fact that every person you encountered was a bald Cockney thug, but the old tube station really did make me think yes, we're in London. And the scenery in France was just gorgeous. I love the locations in Uncharted so much; I always seem to come away from a playing session with an intense desire to RUSH OUT AND SEE THE WORLD, even though I've been led to understand that men with guns will try to shoot you everywhere.

They put the gherkin in the London skyline! And Canary Wharf! And I swear you can see Tolworth Tower but my brother says that's just wishful thinking. That was the 'we're in London squee!' bit for me.

Ooh, better than Nathan staggering out of the toilet cubicle after being beaten up? I look forward to it! (And I didn't notice the Gherkin! I'll have to look out for it if I replay the game in the future, which I imagine I will because it is excellent.)

All I could think was what good fanfiction you would write about them.

Nate: I'm an insolent fifteen-year-old boy who intends to rob this museum!
Sully: I'm a gruff forty-year-old man who intends to steal the same thing from the same museum; what are the odds? As it happens, I have a key to the case right here in my wallet.
Nate: Guess I'd better steal your wallet, then.
Sully: I felt that, kid.
Nate: Crap. I mean, uh, I don't know what you're talking about.
Sully: Want me to call the police?
Nate: Go ahead. 'Course, they might want to know what a middle-aged tourist is doing following young boys down alleyways.
And then Sully's Evil Girlfriend sends Evil Agent Dudes after Nate and Sully fights the dudes to save the kid and then buys him a drink and basically says 'stay with me, kid, and I'm gonna teach you to be a much better thief', and their future exploits unfolded in my mind in the form of fanfiction written by you. A tiny part of me is now 'shipping them and I blame you entirely.

Did you get the special edition? If you did, the codes you get with it give you free suit!Drake for online :DD HE IS MY PERMANENT SKIN, ALTHOUGH HE DOES NOT ALAS COME WITH BRUISES AND BLOOD. SADFACE.

I did not get the special edition, alas! I don't tend to play online, though, for fear of humiliating myself, so I suppose I'm not missing out on too much besuited Drake.

Don't worry, I stay the hell away from other actual people online, lol. I did a Team Deathmatch the other day to get the complete a competitive game trophy, and there were loads of lv.70s people in there who completely boned me. Basically, I just ran around a lot and occasionally shot at some people and missed. Mostly I just play with my friends (few though they are XD), it's a lot more fun that way. Plus you can ramble at each other on the mics, which is nice.

He is. Just. This perfect smug little git. I want to punch him in his tiny smug face and then take him home and make him bathe and give him dinner, even though he would steal everything he could fit in his pockets and run off, probably. I LOVE HIS SWAGGER. Baby Naaaaaaate.
